    Towbars

Just a couple of thoughts - Is the fuel bowser 750Kg unladen or is that the max laden weight? If its plated weight is more than 750Kg then anyone who passed their test recently may not be allowed to tow it. The other thing is with it being a fuel bowser there may be a need for ADR (Hazardous...

Anyone carried out major repair to casement window in situ?

I would be using a multi tool - I bought a cheap Netto one several years ago to see if I would use such a tool regularly, intending to replace it with a proper one if I found it useful. I am still using it regularly..... Epoxy would also be my glue of choice but at this time of the year...

Birdmouth - keeping scarf parallel each side of a pole?

Last mast extension I did I made a 3 sided box jig out of mdf with tapered sides to suit the scarf angle. This clamped to the mast made a guide for the first side and with a block wedged in it a parallel guide for the opposite side. Graham

laminate - what grabby glue will allow adjustment??

Dunlop Thixofix is designed for this sort of job - it is a contact adhesive but has a limited bit of "slidability" until it is firmly pressed down. Hope this helps Graham

    Quantative easing

A friend of mine works for a road building company. They have kept a lot of people in work upgrading on the A1 and M1 with quantative easing money, but ultimately the company is French owned so profits go direct to France.....

    window regulations

No idea about the windows but on the rates you need to find the rateable value from the local authority to calculate them. However you will qualify for small business rate relief which at the moment is 100% so for this year you won't be paying anything. Just make sure you ask for the form to...

    Guitar buyin advice anyone?

When we had the same dilemma last year with our daughter we went to Windows in Newcastle - a proper music shop with helpful assistants who know what they are selling and were pleased with what we bought. Much nicer than the Metro Centre...... Graham

New workshop build, with a difference!

Similar foam sealing tape cheaper from Screwfix - http://www.screwfix.com/search.do?fh_se ... atherstrip Available in white too.... I used this when sealing windows against a log lap building and it did the job brilliantly, compressing at the high points and filling the low points Graham

New workshop build, with a difference!

That high up under the overhang I would not think you are talking about much water if any at all getting behind the cladding so you don't need a huge clearance. Just a couple of shallow cuts with a saw and clear between them with a sharp chisel then paint to seal? You really won't be affecting...

New workshop build, with a difference!

If I understand it you are concerned about the ring being tight to the battens and with cladding in place it is not easy to alter the battens.... If that is so can you not just plane a small flat each side of the tube to provide clearance when the whole thing is assembled? As the ring slides in...

    Rip off car keys!!!!!!!

I see the OP is in N Yorkshire - Newcastle Lock and Safe on the West Road, Newcastle set up coded keys for about £60 for most cars and vans if he ever gets up this way. My Mazda also had one of those barrel keys until it sheared trying to get a wheel off.... It doesn't now after seeing the...

    A Question for you

Is it not so if they start rolling when you put them down they go in a circle rather than straight off the bench onto your toes? I have never really thought this through either but there must be some sort of reason for their shape. Perhaps it is just for looks.....

Want to start a new business? Maybe not!

Has anyone found any other reference to this apart from a letter from UKIP MP? I'm not saying it hasn't been proposed but I would like to see another less biased source.... Graham

    Light Switch Wiring Query

I have more than once managed to put a new halogen bulb in without locating the spring loaded connector properly into the bulb.... This causes much more up and down the ladders than strictly necessary!

I had not thought of double sided tape - I am assembling a table this morning and will give it a go instead of the Sikaflex. It sounds quicker and cleaner...... Graham

fein multimaster gets used at last!

I have the Nettos Tooltech - Best £20 I have spent! I fancied the Fein but wanted to see how much I would use such a tool before shelling out so when I saw this at the local Nettos I thought it would do for a quick trial. I have now used it regularly for a year and it still shows no sign of...

    my workshop and commercial use

At the moment with the present 100% relief on small business rates it could be cheaper if there was a way of offsetting the business area against your council tax..... But I would carry on regardless. I started out from home and only moved into a workshop when I had boats in the garage...
