    Concrete Shed Base Problems

Feel a bit ashamed asking this after looking at some of the fabulous workshop builds but I could use some good advice. I have a concrete shed base that is something like 14' by 8'. A friend (experienced landscape gardener) poured/made it as a return favour for some work that I'd done for...

Noob tipsfor Laser Cutter / CNC for woodworking?

I'm not looking for a long answer on what is obviously a bonkers huge subject, but I'm asking here as it's woodwork focussed and I'm not after this kit for decordating tiles or cutting out card sculptures. I'd like to be able to user and experiment with both laser and CNC up to about 600mm x...

    AliExpress

I've used Ali and Banggood. They're often great if it's stuff you've had a recommendation on. How is it even possible to ship it here at the price is beyond me. The "China Tools" reviews guy on youtube shows off some of the better stuff: https://www.hookedonwood.online/China-Tools-Ranking/...

    Flush/Trim cutter router bit size

I'm glad I asked now. I hadn't considered quite a few of these things. Grateful for patient and thoughtful answers. I learn something new every time I come here.

    Flush/Trim cutter router bit size

Ah! Corner radius. Blindingly obvious now you point it out! Isn't it always, after the fact! Thanks :)

    Flush/Trim cutter router bit size

Well yeah of course, especially if you hold it really close to your face. But wait, that's not quite was I was asking.😂

    Flush/Trim cutter router bit size

I needed a flush cut top bearing router bit, don't have much time to leave the house for a few weeks for the 90 min round trip to buy such a thing so grabbed a cheapo one off amazon as it will only be very occasional use. But hold on. What's the point of different widths/sizes of flush cut bit...

Cottage back door for the M-I-L

One quick question as I've just started dimensioning the timber (got a good deal on some sapele from Yandles!). With regard to the tongue and groove. Is it customary to cut the tongues to the exact depth, or a little short of full-depth to allow for movement or something?

Deep fill circular euro-hinger hole to accept screw

Carry sheet goods on car roof

I was driving around 100m or so behind some sort of flatbed that had a frame just behind the cab. Someone had stacked, upright, about 30 plastic downpipes, the 150mm diameter or so one. They were just roped up and the rope must have worked its way over the frame. One by one in rapid succession...

Deep fill circular euro-hinger hole to accept screw

I've had to plumb in new dishwasher tonight as the previous one went boom. It's an integrated one where you screw a door of the same style as the rest of your units onto the door of the dishwasher. Problem is that there's a damn great euro-hinge hole right where the screw needs to land in the...

Carry sheet goods on car roof

So the consensus seems to be, within reason and with care it's not a ridiculous thing to do (or similar). Does anyone bother to try to cover the sheets with tarp or plastic when raining, or do you just shrug it off and let them dry once home? I guess it massively depends on the materials.

Carry sheet goods on car roof

Here's a cool idea from youTuber Dan Pattison. Is this legal in the UK? Of course, I get it – it's safer to get it delivered, you shouldn't drive home at 200mph over bridges into a crosswind and this would be stupid on a tiny SmartCar and all those considerations. I've got a sturdy Toyota...

Cottage back door for the M-I-L

Just totted up the timber in Sapele and it's like £220+vat or so. Given that this is going to be painted and maintained, any suggestions for something cheaper? If for durability it really has to be a durable hardwood then so be it! I looked at the douglas fir prices and they were about the same...

Cottage back door for the M-I-L

Not enough depth in the original frame to do framed ledge and brace. They want a newer, better version of what's there already and don't want any faffing with the frame as it's a complicated old cottage with many things meeting at that point. Ideally, they'd have some master craftsman totally...
