The symbols I have used so far have been symbols for peace, friendship, love etc for my vase and the latest piece I`ve used Chinese...

Easy peasy fix for the UK economy!

Please find below a recommendation for fixing the UK's economy. Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan: There are about 10 million people over 50...

    Revisited slightly decorated Ash vase!

Hi folks I was not happy with the lid I recently made for this vase so after a visit to Dorset where I saw a guy making sculptures on the beach from balancing big stones I don`t know why but I thought - lid/handle...... so this is the result. I thought white but my other half thought it would...

    Slightly decorated Ash vase!

Thanks chaps for the comments, appreciated. The lid has been niggling me since I made it and I think I`ll be changing it soon. I made a stencil of Japanese peace symbols using a gadget called a Craft Robo which can cut out any design you create on screen, this was sized up accordingly, stuck on...

    Slightly decorated Ash vase!

Hi all Had another go with my stencil cutter on a vase I turned the other day with hopefully another Japanese theme to it. I wondered for a while about getting rid of the small bark piece on the side but then I had the notion as the rings lead you to it that it was really the heart of the vase...

    Creativity & Development of concepts

I like the `Nothing is original` bit. I think its easy to get bogged down trying to produce something original - if I use three different methods from three different turners on one piece have I made something unique??. I would almost go as far as saying that its nye on impossible to make...

Anyone tried the Crown revolution hollowing gouge!

Allen I did wonder that but its supposed to be ok with seasoned/unseasoned wood ? Colin Was the Pro referring to this particular gouge or this sort of cut in general, I`m not quite sure what you mean? I was getting chips instead of streamers. Cheers Steve

Anyone tried the Crown revolution hollowing gouge!

Hi folks Wondered if anyone has tried this gouge at all. I bought one a while ago and used it properly (?) for the first time at the weekend to hollow out a fairly green 6" diameter piece of Ash and didn`t really have much success. I tried all sorts of combinations of lathe speed (200rpm to 500...
