Upcoming TV programme and Felder/Hammer bargains

There’s a show called “the Chop” coming on to Sky in mid Oct. just like a woodworking Bake Off. But I think filmed pre-lockdown?

    Favorite YouTube woodworker

A young guy that I've been following for a couple of years is Sean Evelegh - https://www.youtube.com/c/SeanEvelegh/featured It's good to see his development in woodwork and film making. He's going to be on a new woodworking show with Will Hardie, called "The Chop".

    Filing ltd company accounts

I use Quickbooks and even though I use an accountant, I could file direct from the software. Double is, the cost of the software is £20+ per month.

    CAD - Computer Aided Dilemma?

Ive been using Autodesk Fusion 360, which is free for hobby or small commercial use. It's great for producing 2D drawings for construction as well as producing renders for customer approval. You can send links to customers, too, so that they can rotate a 3D model in a browser window (and see the...

    Unwanted texture, help!

My advice, based on a similar set of circumstances, for a luxury handbag maker is “walk away now”. They generally want the Holy Trinity of fast, cheap and extraordinarily high quality, only the last one of these being what I wanted. I do turning and my unit is next door to an automotive body...

    Floating shelf brackets

Hafele make the ones with the grub screw. IIRC they have a 2mm eccentric to help you line them up straight. Used them myself. Shelf is still up 10 years later.

    Hammer A3-31. First impressions

I tend to haggle with anyone if I’m spending more than a few hundred quid!

    Hammer A3-31. First impressions

I’m interested in an A3-31 or even A3-41. Wasn’t aware there were deals on - are they advertised or should I enquire at MK?

    Lazy Susan?

Use a router and trammel to make a template in mdf or ply. Use the template with a bearing guided cutter or guide bush to make the final piece. More work, less stress. And you can use the template again when someone says “can you make me one”.

Are expensive tenon saws worth it?

If you have a local tool store, ask them about a saw sharpening service (I have two places locally I can use). You could then buy an "old" saw and get it sharpened for you for the first go, so you know what it will perform like.

    Finishes for Turned Bowls

Chestnut products do a good chart of "what finish goes over what base", here https://chestnutproducts.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Chestnut-Products-Compatibility-Chart-Coloured.pdf which is a useful reference for this sort of question.

What a fantastic project to be involved in.

Hand drawn turned Olive wood coaster project.

However, those coasters look fantastic. I hope they stay flat for you. It’s too late now, but melamine lacquer does well on olivewood.

Hand drawn turned Olive wood coaster project.

I sell olive wood. Some of it moves massively! I have some coasters that look like they’re a scale model of a wave!

    Drill bits

Famag and Fische are good. Try Dart if you want decent price/performance.

    Bluetooth/FM enabled ear-defenders

I use some Bluetooth sports earbuds with Peltor ear defenders over them in the workshop. I tried ISOtunes and sent them back because none of the tips fitted my ears. They sounded good though.
