    Food board sealing/finishing

Either Osmo Top oil (available in matt or satin) or Chestnut Food Safe Oil. I know some people who use Odies Oil / wax, but it's f****** expensive.

    Turning hard wood

Is it a spindle you’re turning or a bowl? Either way, don’t use a skew if you’re a beginner. But in any event , sparks should only be for the grinder, not timber. Harder timber is great to turn, you just can’t take too much off in one cut, but the upside is a great finish from the tool, before...

    felder cutterblock

Do you know if the gas strut is an option on the A3 41? I’m thinking of getting one and would specify it. I can ask the Felder rep anyway.

Planer/Jointer vs Thicknesser, which one should I buy first?

I’ve produced quite a few chopping / serving boards in both face grain and end grain. I’d go for a wider (310 or 410) thicknesser if you have room and the cash. You can use a hand plane or sledge on the thicknesser to get it flat first. A 260mm wide chopping board is a bit limited. I have also...

    Dust Disposal

“Loose” shavings from a thicknesser burn pretty quickly - a dustbin’s worth lasts about a day. You need to put more on about every 20 minutes and be careful not to put the flames out (that’s when you get explosive mixtures). Sawdust from a vacuum for sanders etc I always just put the whole...

    You know your old when......

Ive used Lancashire Saw in the past and been happy. I've had stuff mailed back to me (including circular saw blades and planer knives), so I guess you could send stuff to them.

Routing for beginners (and routing tables)

Here's mine. An old offcut of oak worktop on two sawhorses, so I can move it/hide it when I need to move stuff around in the shop. A Trend T11 under it. T-track and extrusion both bought from eBay, some from China which arrived in about 3 weeks. I can put auxiliary fences on to the aluminium...

    Making a kitchen worktop

I'm making a kitchen worktop in olive - finished size 20mm thick. I'll be making it from probably 75mm staves, with loose tongues (20mm x 6mm) to joint the staves. I'm not sure if I should use an edge jointing cutter on the end grain, or loose tongues again. It's a straight 2.5m run, no joints...

    Sash clamps

I've decided to get the Bessey ones in, with the Uniklamp "freebies". I've also had a quote of £59.58 ex-VAT for the 78" Record T-bar, which look tempting, too. Can't have enough clamps. Thanks for all your help guys.

    Sash clamps

You can get the "normal" Record sash clamps (not T bar) for £130 for 4off, 54" ones. The T bar ones are a lot more expensive.
