    Our Man Graham....PW Writer Extraordinaire!

Thanks Chaps. My hobby is the fun stuff in my spare time. I can assure you that during the day there are all the normal headaches #-o and happiness :D you get in any walk of life.

WoodRiver 5 1/2 plane pass around???

I have Peter's 5 1/2 at the moment and will be doing a review shortly if that's any help.

Plane Makers...something to float yer boat??

Excellent Jim! In the few books I have the only nod to floats is in Ellis where he says to make them out of old files. He says a Joiner would most likely use them for levelling out a mortice if the chopping out had gone wayward. Handles, pah, leave it tang exposed :-). Also what stewie said!

Thanks for checking in chaps. They do indeed seem very popular CC. It's something than none of the previous three Haydon's had. Both My Great Grandfather and Grandfather had tool bags when they needed to be mobile and tools hung on the wall in the workshop. Typical example below. Perhaps...

    Fascinating Lacs!

I must watch that Jim, I bought a copy of Steven Shepard's work on traditional finishes http://www.fullchisel.com/blog/?page_id ... ry=1576107 . I'm due to try making my own paint pretty soon and the book is helpful with that. It remains to be seen if I can make it work though!

    Our Man Graham....PW Writer Extraordinaire!

Thanks Jim, I must update that photo from FB, it's about 4 years old now. I have less hair and more of it grey! Not sure about the big time Jim  it's just nice to have a chance to write for another location other than my blog. It's only a trial and it might disappear by the end of the year...

Thanks Bern, it might be short lived but it's nice to have the chance. Happy hunting at the car boot.

Small chisel with rounded top edges

You might well be right CC, a bigger photo would help. I was thinking that perhaps the description given was wrong. And yes, I agree totally on the dovetailing!

Small chisel with rounded top edges

Not sure but I think you can still get this style of chisel. I think it is/was marketed as a dovetail chisel as the rounding meant the lands on the edges were non existent. Comfortable too? I might have go that wrong though!

    More money than sense?

Yep, think you got it in one Andy.

    W14 Show

I have gone to the last two but don't feel there is enough to make the trip worthwhile this time. The Weinig Cube was a highlight last time.

    What Kitchen drawer mechanism?

Go with some undermount runners from Grass, Blum etc. A drawer with a heavy loading of cutlery glides so easily with this type of runner. If one breaks, which I have not had yet you just put in a new set. Within a kitchen setting traditional drawers would normally be reserved for small and...

    Silchester plane

Smashing stuff! I was so interested to see how this one worked the wood! Now if we could do a passaround on this one

    what are CLIFTON doing.....

It'll be interesting to see how this progresses. As much as I like the Stay Set I think it would be a good idea to offer a normal cap iron. Enough writers and consumers dislike them and tell all and sundry how poor they are. Offering the option would seem an easy fix. And yes to promoting the...

Card scrapers steel and what's best for you?

The faithfull scraper is nice, it works easily with a gouge but they only do a rectangle. There is a pack of generic scrapers doing the rounds on ebay I bought but they are quite hard and need something a bit harder than a gouge.

Handsome! Like Andy said, bargain! I would also CC's route with an oct.

    Clifton planes

I'm not sure I agree there Vann. I think the average QS buyer is looking for what Stanley or Record used to do with great skill, make decent tools at a good price. The Clifton, LN, LV is for those wanting something a little more "special" and is a different demographic. On the Clifton side of...

Quangsheng No. 62 Low Angle Jack Plane

It would be nice to take the QS for a test drive. I have the Stanley and I think the QS (without the experience of owning one) seems better value with three blades. Also the QS stuff I have tried has so far been better than Stanley for very similar money. In my limited experience Stanley have...
