Old induction motor - direction reversal

Also might be useful as part of your diagnosis - if you manage to disconnect the start winding, you should find that the motor no longer self starts, and has to be started by flicking it by hand in whatever direction you want it to go in. Not a permanent solution but once you get to this stage...

PPE for turning - concerns over the PAPR masks

See photos below. They are 18650 size batteries, the box is for storing 4 of them. I would suggest a waist band pouch worn backwards to store the battery pack, then the cable doesn't swing round the front which could catch on things. The black box is what originally held the batteries.

PPE for turning - concerns over the PAPR masks

I have the airshield pro, and some people do get neck ache when first using it as the battery is right at the very top, so there is a fair amount of leverage applied to your neck unless your head is absolutely vertical. I put the battery on a cable in a small box so its in my pocket instead, a...

    Remote switch on of Extractor

You could relocated the no-volt switch to a box on the cable, you would then need to work out the wiring at the unit itself and bypass where the switch used to be. Be careful with the power rating of your remote switches, motors use alot of current starting up.

    New lathe

You could restore an older cast iron lathe like a Viceroy, Union Graduate, or smaller Busgreen Wadkin.

Karcher k4 Anyone know anything about Kerchers ?

I would agree it sounds like the pressure valve, if you are lucky there is just some dirt in the valve and it will clean out. But the power washer will probably still work fine to be honest.

Thanks, updated the Wadkin RT. I had heard the RU has 2" 4.5tpi, I dont know the tapers though.

    Large Forstner bits (55mm plus)

I have found with 50mm+ forstner bits, you may find the bit spins in the chuck unless it is a good one, and you may also find the chuck taper spinning in the tailstock. I have a 70mm and 100mm forstner bits that I regularly use, but I have to really hit the chuck into the taper with wood/rubber...

Tool post dimensions. Your input and information is needed!

Jacob, do you know the toolpost size for your lathe? And tapers sizes? I can only find the headstock threads online.

Tool post dimensions. Your input and information is needed!

thanks for all input, I have done most of the toolpost diameters I can find, now looking at the headstock threads and tapers.

Tool post dimensions. Your input and information is needed!

Hello everyone. I was surprised to see that there are not many permanent resources for this data, and none of the lathe manufacturers will have much desire to create it, so I have just created Lathe headstock thread and toolpost diameter information - metal lathes and wood lathes...

Head Stock Adapter for Parkside Lathe

I would suggest you kindly ask flh801978 to make you an adapter from M18 1.5 to 1" 8TPI, If you take a picture of a ruler close up against the threads, and then also measure the outer diameter, we can work out whether your spindle really is M18 1.5 pitch. 1" 8tpi will give you a wide choice of...

Head Stock Adapter for Parkside Lathe

A custom thread adapter is a fairly easy task for someone with a metal lathe, do you know the thread you have is definitely M18 x 1.5? I would get an adapter from that to a popular woodturning thread like 3/4" 16tpi or 1" 8tpi. Also if you make an adapter to a bigger thread, you do not need...

    Anyone know why?

I think its because normally a device with say 4 x 1.5v batteries, doesnt want 1.5V, it wants 6V, which is easier to create with the batteries in a zigzag pattern, so its a cost saving. If all the batteries were the same way round, wires would be needed in a criss cross pattern to get 6V. I have...

Hazdent Machine Tools - big wood lathe project!

Thanks for your research Richard. I suspect any paperwork for this machine is not digitized, and I am not sure where to start with offline research to be honest!

Terminating a shielded cable with a VFD & spindle?

I should point out I am using a manual wood lathe, so no computer equipment in close proximity to the VFD/motor. I do have a PC in the workshop, I have not noticed any interference issues.

Terminating a shielded cable with a VFD & spindle?

How long is the motor cable? I am running a motor on a VFD and the cable has no shielding, I have not had any problems. Have you tried running it?

Terminating a shielded cable with a VFD & spindle?

Have you tested with a multimeter that the two earth points are indeed not connected? On mine there is a distinction between "earth" from the mains, and "ground" which is a much smaller screw, and designed to be the connection for the shield on any signal cables. If you have the PDF manual for...

    Neighbour's circular saw accident

I would find a chainsaw very handy for cutting wood blanks, but after briefly borrowing one and looking at how much of the chain is exposed flying round I decided I could never feel comfortable using one. But yes, I believe the two main causes of accidents are lack of understanding what you are...
