Does anyone recognise this lathe model

tailstock looks very similar to this: Clarke CWL1000B 40" Wood Turning Lathe - Machine Mart - Machine Mart Which is considered to be one of the cheapest wood lathes available, and not well regarded. I would look out for a better lathe personally, but if its free why not?

    Big wheel keeps on turning

Weight is the main trick for larger items, if the lathe itself is not heavy enough a couple of bags of sand/cement/whatever can absorb most of the vibration.

1 1/2" Union Graduate dual LH/RH threaded faceplates

Looks like Beaufort Ink now sell Union Graduate faceplates in 3 sizes, with the dual threading, so at least there are two suppliers now. I don't have a Graduate anymore myself now though.

    Screwing thin wood (8mm)

Probably worth considering many short screws, and perhaps some adhesive at the same time, short screws are easy to pull out under pressure.

Could EVERYONE stop making stuff so I could afford the materials..

The bandsaw I put for sale went quite quickly, I reckon I could have got more for it!

Could EVERYONE stop making stuff so I could afford the materials..

Similar situation with tools, I just sold a bandsaw secondhand for the same price I paid brand new about a year ago!

    Versachuck & Axi Jaws

Highly recommend keep some spare screws, for any chuck type, so annoying when your project comes to a halt digging through all the woodchips looking for a dropped screw.

Cavity wall insulation and window replacement

I can see online "cork spray" which is 6mm of cork on the inside of the walls, instead of filling the cavity. I wonder how this compares efficiency-wise with a few inches of insulation in the wall cavity.

Cavity wall insulation and window replacement

Yes Stretcher bond style, and "textured" according to that website. I can see wire joiners across the two walls.

Cavity wall insulation and window replacement

To my untrained eye its a double skin wall, one brick wide with a cavity. Very ordinary looking red bricks. It is a semi detached house, probably 1950s build, with a conservatory and car port on the lower level which means the walls in those areas don't get any rain at all. Upper storey does get...

Cavity wall insulation and window replacement

We are currently living in an ongoing "doer upper" house and at some point in the future we are planning to replace all the windows and doors, and to have cavity wall insulation installed. I am wondering if it is better to do one before the other? My current thinking is that we should replace...

    Air filter

I have my dust extractor in the "loft space" of the garage, and then two airbricks either end so not much of the fine dust makes it back down to the space where I am. Only issue with big ventilation is if its cold you cannot keep warm easily!

    Air filter

I bought a secondhand powered filter for hay fever sufferers and fitted new filters to it. Quite reasonably priced. If you are doing it DIY just make sure you get good filters that can go down to 5 microns or so, if you have a fan blowing a filter that only catches large bits then you are just...

    Union Gradute Shortbed

Its easy to lower the bed on a Union Graduate with a thick plate as you say, but you need to consider the toolpost and tailstock height, its a bit more effort. I have seen several examples of Union graduates that have been upgrade in this way, both shortbed and long bed. I was debating doing...

    Etsy...how does it work?

I have often considered trying to sell items I create on my wood lathe, but as earlier posters have mentioned the demand for materials to make things is much higher than the demand for homemade items. So at the moment I am content with letting them pile up around the house, and use them as gifts...

    Etsy...how does it work?

Yes its similar to ebay, although I think its only buy it now prices, rather than bidding. The main difference is it has to be "hand made" which is a bit of a fuzzy definition, but limits the items for sale to arts and crafts type things. I put a woodturned bowl for sale there 2 years ago, no...

Hazdent Machine Tools - big wood lathe project!

Unfortunately the lathes.co.uk resource does not have any reference to Hazdent Machine Tools, only a text at the bottom of the page to boost links. I phoned the guy who runs it, he had not seen one before. I plan to send him all the information I have, which is basically just the photos and some...

Hazdent Machine Tools - big wood lathe project!

Update since I last posted - I have been busy with a few other things but have used the lathe occasionally for woodturning when I have had time. The banjo and tailstock clamps were a bit Heath Robinson, being made from flat pieces of metal they would sometimes rotate while trying to tighten the...
