Metal roof insulation to fix condensation

This is more or less my plan, but I was thinking of polystyrene insulation boards or maybe even the kingspan ones if I can stretch to that. Mainly because I hate working with the fibre insulation! Just no idea what the gap should be between roof and the boards etc and whether I need to put...

Metal roof insulation to fix condensation

I think I’ve found some actually - this the stuff you mean? https://www.rawlinspaints.com/home/hygiene-coatings/mould-damp-proof-paints/1302-rust-oleum-5090-anti-condensation-coating.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAjp6BBhAIEiwAkO9WutG42AwUmwfjmABrZP-joZwPCMNnPfghWRhrbJRvrsXy_5dWWpaIjBoCN3oQAvD_BwE Anyone...

Metal roof insulation to fix condensation

Thanks - Do you have a link to any products? I’ve searched online but all I can see is ronseal ‘anti condensation paint’ which seems to suggest it works by forming a thermal barrier rather than absorbing moisture.

Metal roof insulation to fix condensation

Hi all I’m planning on turning the garage into a workshop and have noticed this winter (we only moved in last year) that the corrugated metal roof seems to gather a lot of condensation. It drips down, not torrentially, but I’d want to sort it out before I get the electricity put in obviously...

    Used saws and other tools

Thanks again for the advice. I’ll definitely have a read through the thread deema, should be very helpful. I may buy new just to get going but also have a go at sharpening an old saw if I can get a cheap one anyway. I quite enjoy the process of restoring things just for its own sake really!

    Used saws and other tools

So would something like this for tenon saw be a decent choice: https://www.toolstop.co.uk/spear-jackson-9550b-tenon-saw-traditional-brass-back-12-inch-15ppi-p73577/?gclid=CjwKCAiAsOmABhAwEiwAEBR0Zud5edGr4k8ITdd-VkeqbQnjeXWVNFw20HQtnVp2vr2pX8IBtAEK8xoCoF8QAvD_BwE and something like this...

    Used saws and other tools

The spear and Jackson ones look like a good starter option for me. The veritas ones look great but still a bit out of my price range right now. I was just reading a Paul sellers blog about the s&j skew back saw actually, which he recommends

    Used saws and other tools

Thanks for the replies - I guess I could buy a couple of saws new. Makes things easier in the short term. I got a no 4 Stanley plane on eBay which has cleaned and sharpened up well, and I got a spokeshave too the other day - but was wary of falling into a rabbit hole of just buying loads of...

    Used saws and other tools

Hi all, I was wondering what people’s advice is when it comes to buying used saws, particularly from the point of view of beginners and getting into woodworking. New saws can be quite pricey but there are a lot of ‘vintage’ saws online going for pretty cheap, but what do you need to be looking...

    Starter sharpening stones

1k stone, yeah. I have a 3000 on the other side which I suppose I could have used too, was just practicing and having some fun for the time being (as I say don’t even have a bench built yet) when you say some bias in the edge do you mean put a slight curve on the corners? I’ve seen that some...

    Starter sharpening stones

Ah, ha ha - no, I meant Axminster tools. (We have them up here now too - and electricity! 😉) in the end I grabbed a £7.50 honing guide when I was in wickes yesterday, seems reasonable enough. I had a go at doing the no.4 plane blade just using some 120grit decorators paper, a granite...

    Starter sharpening stones

Thanks for that very kind offer, I’m a bit far away though as I’m in Tyne and Wear! I have been looking at the cheap eclipse ones on eBay and might see if I can just pick one up for a few quid. I’ve heard mixed things on honing guides and learning to hold the angle of the blade, some people say...

    Starter sharpening stones

I think I’ll go with the honing guide to begin with. I don’t want to frustrate my experience by needing to spend a long time getting the muscle memory and practicing free hand sharpening. I’m thinking of actually just grabbing a honing guide and some psa sandpaper and using the stone I have to...

    Starter sharpening stones

I think I’m leaning away from water stones because of the maintenance factor (although I think you can just use float glass and wet and dry to flatten?). I actually have a 1000/3000 grit combination whetstone that I use for my kitchen knives, but need something a bit coarser for the...

    Starter sharpening stones

Thanks for all the info. Hadn’t heard of the eclipse honing guides but there are a lot of them on eBay - should be able to get one for a few quid. D_W - not sure if there were meant to be links in the post to the article/methods you mention? Maybe just didn’t work for me what are peoples...

    Starter sharpening stones

Thanks for the detailed advice. Think I may end up going with the Axminster one as I’ll go there on Saturday anyway. Was hoping to get their basic honing guide for £13 but seems sold out, loads of things seem sold out right now - not sure if this is covid impact on supply (or maybe just loads...

    Starter sharpening stones

Hi all, just looking for some general advice on a good starting set up for sharpening chisels/plane blades. Ideally want to spend somewhere in the region of £50 for the stones - so much variation in price though, I’ve been looking at the Axminster combination stone...

    Finishing handrail

That’s a good idea too - it does sound worth doing but will put some card in first to see. Definitely think I’ll go for the osmo oil now.

    Finishing handrail

Thanks - that’s a good suggestion actually. It would also deal with the problem that I’ve not been able to get those bits properly sanded back (see photo).
