    Triton MOF001 router - bushings/template guides

I’m actually thinking of visiting the Harrogate woodworking show this weekend - does anyone know if they tend to have discounts on the day there? I think trend are one of the exhibitors but I’ve never been to one of the shows so not sure how good they are

    Triton MOF001 router - bushings/template guides

This is my next problem - fitting it to a router table. The cost of the router table plates seems so much for what they are, might try to make my own or modify a cheap one from Amazon when I get to that stage

    Triton MOF001 router - bushings/template guides

My main intention is to install it into a table, but I want to use it to cut curved shoulders on some tenons and wanted to use a template for that. Hence not really wanting to spend the whole £90 on a full set, looking for the most basic option. It seems like it’ll be great for a table though, I...

    Triton MOF001 router - bushings/template guides

That's where I'm leaning. Although I did just see this video where he's managed to make the uni-base fit just as well...

    Triton MOF001 router - bushings/template guides

Hi all - looking for some advice on the triton mof001 or other triton routers and the options to fit bushings or template guides? I'm mainly wanting something that will allow me to use templates and set up guide fences when routing freehand. I considered just getting flush trim bits with top...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Thanks - I think I was just tempted by it because of the low starting price, but who knows how much they’ll end up going for. I’ve been watching videos on relief carving, some of the Mary may (?) ones on YouTube so might start with a small project like that. The chris pye book will give me some...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Thanks for all of the advice guys, it’s been really useful. I managed to find chris pyes woodcarving course and reference manual for £7.99 so waiting for that to arrive. My plan was to have a look at that book and then buy a gouge or two, maybe a V tool from pfeil or something, but I’ve come...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Ha - I assumed that’s what had happened, although I did briefly wonder whether a joker was yet another branch of woodwork I wasn’t aware of! Good luck in your carving journey too 🙂

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Thanks, I might get that. I need to think about sharpening too - I imagine it’s going to be a contentious topic as ever, but would a couple of grits of these be appropriate...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Been looking at this: https://www.classichandtools.com/pfeil-medium-sized-tools-set-of-4/p40 I know people are advising against a set but this seems a fairly good start without buying a massive range. one gouge, one straight, one v-tool. In terms of what I want to do, no idea really but maybe...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Thanks - I assume the new chisels made by pfeil etc are suitable though, if I decide not to go down the used route? Out of curiosity, would you say the marples ones (like the ones are posted initially) are no good? I’ve been looking at gouges on ebay but it’s hard when you don’t really know what...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Thanks - I had a quick look and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of courses around here. They’re probably pricey too. I just fancied having a go and using online tutorials, so thought maybe a set like the above would be a good all rounder to start with …maybe there’s more to it than that though. I...

    Carving chisels - starter advice

Hi all I’m looking to get some carving chisels to have a go at hand carving and wondering what people advise to begin with. I’ve been looking at some used sets on ebay, there’s something like these marples ones for about £160 that seems a fairly extensive set, but don’t know if it’s a good...

Advice needed - Porch canopy build

Nobody will ever see them from closer than 1.5 meters so there’s room for error I guess!

Great. I’ll be trying to turn my own spindles too, hopefully I can manage to make them all match as well!

Advice needed - Porch canopy build

Wow - that is a coincidence. Looks very similar. Even the curved brackets. Spindles look great - are they sapele?

Advice needed - Porch canopy build

No access to domino unfortunately. The original had the ‘harp strings’ (another new term learned!) tenoned in, but I accept the point and could easily screw those. Ditto the turned pieces which were also mortised in. The whole thing will be painted with a good few coats and consequently can be...

Advice needed - Porch canopy build

Sorry just seen this reply - I think you might be right. I do tend to overworry this stuff, I think the fact this has to be structural is making me more cautious than usual - it’s less a problem if a table collapses! I’m based on Tyneside, think you’re midlands? Bit of a trek but thanks very...

Advice needed - Porch canopy build

Fair enough. I mean I’m definitely still keeping the curve as is, albeit cutting out of one 60mm board as the original was. I guess those vertical supports on the curve are adding a lot too. Never heard of a ‘Cyma’ curve before today either!

I think I see what you mean - so drill through the lap directly into the end grain of the longer, lateral pieces?
