    Outhouse Project

Hi all. So I started a thread asking about the lintel and other stuff for my outhouse project. But it was all a bit ambiguous and I've started exploring options already. Basically the outhouse is a mess but also not very water tight and during winter lots of bike stuff tends to get 'rusty'...

    What got you started ?

Oh... in case the thread isn't necessarily about workshop/woodwork then: at about the age of 14 when I first learnt about the XX and XY chomosomes. Had me fascinated and eventually (some 20 years later) found my field in human bio/healthcare. Absolutely love it and its been 14 years since I...

    What got you started ?

Most definitely always (being forced to be) helping my dad on DIY projects when I was younger. I now tell my kids that it's him that inspired me, to have the confidence to try my hand at various projects and it's reason enough for them to help me too. Works on the 8 year old 🤗 When I was young...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

So... I had a new door frame fitted (by a builder!) but he decided that a gap of 4cm to the floor would be fine. After much thinking I decided to repurpose another door frame got off my mate. Lots of cutting and sanding later. I left a gap to thw bottom of the door of about 5mm. Hopefully...

Outhouse/shed door frame replacement - making wider!

Hi all and hope you're all well. Last time I was active was when I was making my lovely chicken coup (and thanks for the advice at that time). Been a while and due to a seriousheart infection in 2018 or 2017 I ended up rehousing the chickens and getting rid of the coup - just in case iy was...

    Waterproof shell for chicken penhouse

Just wanted to update this here thread. Firstly thanks for all the responses and sorry I've not been about. About a year or 2 after doing the chicken house and having my lovely chickens roaming about, I ended up getting a heart infection. Couldn't put my finger on it at the time - I'm reasonably...

    Waterproof shell for chicken penhouse

Yep, was already thinking the overlap principle with any extra edpm around the run offs at the sides. Long ways it is then. Done the little bodge on the hinges and seems to work a trwat. Used #10 screws and dremelled off the extra ends... Will post a pic when able...

Thanks again. Off to go do some bodging now then. When i come back hopefully someone may have suggested which way you would have the fetgeredge roof going. Longways (longer lats going across the width) or shorts

Very artistic. I will get onto it in the morning then line with edpm. Another Q. A problem I would have on one of the main trapdoors where the door is made from the outdoor ply of 12mm (the other trapdoor is from 20mm pine so wouldn't have the aforemetioned problem) is when screwing the hinges...

    Waterproof shell for chicken penhouse

Thanks Bob. Yeah, I wasn't thinking a chemical barrier but rather a physical one more closely resembling the vynil wrap theory used on cars. Previously I had used innertubes as barriers in high risk areas and wondered if there was some sort of rubber sheet-flexible-that could be used. Your...

Thanks again and the input from your cat hosue will indeed inform my ChickChillHouse. You did spot correctly the natural perch taken from my tree. Regarding the hinge. I think I bought standard indoor hinges (stainless steel for the outdoors) and the edge meant the side door (pictured open)...

reason for close up of that hinge was to showI had to cut out grooves of the framework to make it open. Was this cos of the hinge I was using. Do I need to be looking for a different type of hinge?? butt hinge?? to stop this from happening again (door being caught by the framework when trying to...
