I think it was built for that or a similar use, the two lugs underneath were probably held in a normal vice so it was usedflat and horizontally??? Maybe ( : I meant to put a question mark after the title.

This is a strange vice I have had for many years...and have never used it . It was to be used as a tail vice but I used a different system in the end. It's quite heavy so I thought £50 to include postage or make me an offer and pick up near Ludlow.

I have used Hereford Rewinds a couple of times, not cheap but always much cheaper and quicker than adapting/replacement.
