Thinking about a new band saw

That is the early 502,the new one is the 502E or 502S which has ceramic guides .I just had a look at the hammer and although the motor is 4hp the depth of cut is 275 but has ceramic guides....getting more confused by the minute...........!

Thinking about a new band saw

I have just rung tewkesbury saw who talked me out of a jet saying that the startrite 502 is a much better deal (not necessarily a better saw),I hope this is less convusing to you! Still cant decide myself. PS the startrite is £999 less £30 discount.

    Bandsaw advice.

I am watching the essex one, they seem to all go for good money and hold their value so i am thinking startrite 352 is the way ahead and pass it on in the unlikely event of not liking it.Then again that 502 does look nice...........!

    Bandsaw advice.

Thanks Paul, I need a single phase machine and many for sale seem to be 3 phase and although i have an inverter, changing the motor for a larger one is a great idea....do you know if i can use the same switch gear doing this, i figure i can just use 2 of the contacts for the live and neutral?

    Bandsaw advice.

I am in the market for a bandsaw and have been looking at scheppach, jet, axminster and startrite machines, what i would like to know is that the startrite 352 (secondhand) uses a 750w motor and the others use around 2 or 2.5 kw. Is the startrite powerful enough for ripping or is this an older...

I settled on my bench design but...

I watched mine being made and he understood the curve exactly and how it was to work. i had another set made by another friend who got them wrong and then i couldn't catch him to put them right so the second smith reworked them.Mine are very rustic but this was on purpose to suit my 18th century...

I settled on my bench design but...

John, i have just had some made by a blacksmith ,they cost me £50 for 4,they are fantastic and make me smile each time i use them as they are so simple.I think the main consideration is that the bench top needs to be around 3" thick although they work reasonably in the deadman which is 2".
