Drawers - how do you rabbet yours?

Rabbets are cut in the backbone of boats in the UK so not just an American expression, but rebates are what are used for joinery.

Recommend me a good flooring screw please

The spax screws are excellent and the twin threads help eliminate creaking when the timbers shrink and expand due to temperature changes etc. I recommend using 5x60 or longer as I have been asked to fix creaking retrospectively and it has been from under sized screws and/or not enough of...

    Joke Thread 4 (closed).

What an odious misogynistic and defamatory comments you are throwing out, it shows your male sexist attitude. The royal family may not be my favourite people but I feel that without proof you are open to a libel case which I hope you have funds to fight.

Good description of how a handplane works.

I meant to add that this fellows way of removing the waste is superb and as always with a true master he makes it look so easy.

Good description of how a handplane works.

I think the face side and face edge marking and squaring is the true lesson to all woodwork, it doesn't matter which method you use to remove the waste to the line..... How is the Langhe, I shall be fixing drains near Murazzano in June, can't wait!! 😂

Old Shipwreck found on beach Orkney

Treenails, trunnels, were or are still used much later in Scandinavia. Really excellent fasteners as they can be used in blind holes too if you place the wedge lightly and hammer into a blind hole the wedge is forced in tight.

    Wood 'Grown to shape'

Most parts of a boat come from curved timber, even the planking came from curved butts, IE boatskin larch, all the knees are from grown timber and the stem and sternposts too. Many plank shapes when transposed to 2d are very curved or s shaped and if cut from straight stock would have too much...

Fixing the Festool TS55 dust port

Could anyone make me a set too! I have put little shaped slivers under the walls to tighten up but quite often the whole lot falls off. A shame for such a good tool. Happy to purchase. J.
