    Sorby Pro-Edge

Reading lots of positive things about the pro edge. I bought a tormek T4 about 6 months ago, and I must say I havent been too impressed by it. I am not turning, so it's only used for chisels and planes irons (all PMV11). It takes ages for the tormek to grind the primary bevel. Plus I am not a...

    bad axe saws

So, i finally ordered the Pax 1776. Made locally and price is easier to justify for a hobbyist. Planning to do a shaker style side table this week end, so it will be put to the test !

    bad axe saws

yes, i calculated quickly the total cost for import and it would be around 300 gbp, so i kinda gave up this option. But workshopheaven has it in stock for 215 £. i spent a bit of time today on skelton's website, and really like not only the saw (both dimensions and design) but also the...

    bad axe saws

Had a look at Skelton saws, and yep, I really like their carcass saw. But the price if huge !! I was actually thinking to "downgrade" a bit and go for a pax 1776. Prob not as good, but after all Im just a hobbyist... I think I need to still think a bit about it...

    bad axe saws

Lie Nielsen are nice but the tenon saw is def too big for me. I bought a year ago their tenon saw (16") and have barely used it since then. So Im looking for a replacement... There might be soon a LN tenon saw for sale on the forum soon :p

    bad axe saws

Hello again, was checking a bit the different options. Skelton looks nice but is much more expensive ! Also, was checking at Flinn Garlick, and was wondering about their Pax 1776 line. Anyone have experience with it ? I recalled reading some bad reviews about some of the Flinn Garlick range...

    bad axe saws

havent been thinking to skelton saws, but thanks for the idea. The 12"carcass would be a good match (in rip). Need to think a bit about it...

    bad axe saws

thanks custard, just saw your message. Seems that their hybrid is quite similar to Paul Sellers sharpening method. (need to cross check that). And yes, as you said, considering the tpi (13/14), it will be used both as a rip and xcut. My dovetails are really good actually ! Did a tool chest ( C...

    bad axe saws

thanks for your feed backs, much appreciated ! ok, import fees seem pretty massive... I will have a look at workshop heaven and classic hand tools. Agree, quite pricey, but i have a limited set of tools and want to keep it minimalist. I plan to have this one as my main saw, in addition to my...

    bad axe saws

Hello, im considering to buy a bad axe 12" Hybrid Dovetail/Small Tenon Saw. Does anyone of you own a saw from them and is happy/unhappy with it ? Also, any issue to expect with the customs ? (i guess there is a 20% import fees) Thanks ! Chris.

    Workbench in an apartment

Thanks ! I went with the "ebeniste" line. The ebeniste-menuisier line has the option of a leg vise, but I dont really like the pin system, so decided to go classic :) It's build with mortise and tenons joints, and few bolts here and there (2 on the top/trestle, and 1 per leg/cross section)

    Workbench in an apartment

So, I finally received my bench yesterday. It was a pain to bring it to the first floor, 130 kg... But im very happy with the final result ! In a nutshell, I have been able to personalize it (mostly thicker top (100 mm), round bench holes 19mm), at the same price than a Sjoberg. Quite nice to...

    Workbench in an apartment

yes ! I've given up the non-racking vices (i think Veritas has a good one). I saw the veritas stuff and was considering getting one. But indeed, could do it myself with some thin stock. Have to find a place where to get that (any idea in Stafford or surroundings ?).

    Workbench in an apartment

actually I learned about this company on this website ! This is the one I took, with the modifications listed above : http://www.etablis-francois.com/etablis ... niste.html Delivery costs are 190 eur. Not cheap, but was expecting worse..

    Workbench in an apartment

sorry for the late reply. I finally decided to buy one from France, from Etabli Francois. The good thing is that you can customize them, so I asked for a thicker top (100 mm instead of 75 mm), round bench dogs holes, length at 175, and no drawer. I might have gone a bit extreme with the top...

    Workbench in an apartment

Thanks for the inputs ! very helpful and appreciated ! I already built a workbench (when i was in sweden) but this time i would like something better that can last a while. I am considering to get the sjoberg elite 1500. heavy, thick top, vices seem good (apparently not much racking), and not...

    Workbench in an apartment

Thanks for your reply ! it's just that it seems kinda weird to have a workbench in a flat, but if I'm not the only one, then it's fine. oh, and nope, no business (with my skills, i would go bankrupt very quickly :D )

    Workbench in an apartment

Hi all, I moved from Sweden about 6 months ago. I had there a room in the basement where do some woodworking (well, rather shavings and saw dust, but was fun). I am now living in a flat, and bought couple of months ago a sjoberg smart vise, that I put on my living room table. I can get a bit...
