    Rebate plane or moving fillister

Many thanks Derek and Custard for your answers. Much appreciated. The Veritas one seems to be the easiest to use, but as you both noted, the wooden ones, despite being a bit more finicky, have a little something extra. I will probably spend the next 6 months overthinking it ! I was...

    Rebate plane or moving fillister

To be honest, I've never considered the Stanley. Every time I heard of it, i heard negative things. Apparently many had fence and depth stop issues. I've been using the Veritas skew block plane for the past 2 years, avoiding doing rabbets as much as possible ! Time to upgrade !

    Rebate plane or moving fillister

Thanks Derek. How do you find adjusting the fence of the wooden fillister ? Is it straightforward ? I agree with you, a wooden plane has some kind of "soul" compared to a metal plane. (Ps : I really like your tools reviews!) Sent from my VKY-L09 using Tapatalk

    Rebate plane or moving fillister

Hello, i'm in the market for a rebate plane (since quite some time now...) and was thinking to get the Veritas skew rebate plane. However, I came across the moving fillister from Phillyplanes and i quite like the idea of a wooden plane (already have a marking gauge from him that I really like)...

    Best sharpening system

I have a tormek T4 and really don't like it (sits in a box since 6 months in the garage) . It is crazy slow to set the primary bevel. For turning tools though, it can be useful as those seem complicated to sharpen. So for my plane blades and chisel, I'm using a jig (Veritas) and diamond + water...

    Sawmill/timber near Birmingham

I ordered in the past from good timber. They are quite good but very expensive. I plan to do in the coming months a shaker style chest of drawers, and that requires a fair bit of timber (I am thinking about using cherry). And goodtimber or timbersource or other online dealers (while...

    Sawmill/timber near Birmingham

Thanks James, I think I'll pay them a visit tomorrow on my way back home. I think I've already been there once, to get some soft wood. I want to do a small shaker style shelf, so I might find some stuff there (I dont need much material for that). I got a feedback from Scawton sawmill : planed...

    Sawmill/timber near Birmingham

Hello, just moved to Wolverhampton, and was wondering if anyone here had a good source where to get timber nearby. I'm mostly looking for poplar and cherry (several suppliers of oak in the area, but not a big fan of it). Thanks ! Chris.

    Robert Sorby ProEdge Sharpening System

Indeed, it is since yesterday. It has a variable speed (which i guess can be useful if you you want to make your final edge on it) and a bit more power (575 Vs 370ish for the PE) Sent from my VKY-L09 using Tapatalk

    Robert Sorby ProEdge Sharpening System

Do any of you have also difficulties to have a square edge with the ProEdge ? (As stated by woodbloke66) Was waiting for the Axminster one before pulling the trigger, but not sure it will bring much more than the PE. Sent from my VKY-L09 using Tapatalk

    Axminster HQ tour, Who's going

Thanks, let's hope it comes out in the new catalog. The sorby seems nice but quite pricey to be fair. And grinding by hand is a pain, I need to find something else !! Sent from my VKY-L09 using Tapatalk

Dust & chips extraction : What to buy

Yes, I was thinking of a similar model from Axminster. It was fairly good reviews, and is quite small. I need to see it in a store..

Dust & chips extraction : What to buy

Yes, read it already. Plenty of useful information. But it's always good to read about others experience and get their feedback. Sent from my VKY-L09 using Tapatalk
