    Drum Sander envy

Thank you very much for the advice about the clamping of the paper. I think I will have a go at that. Unfortunately I did not had time to look at the reversal of the motor this weekend. But rest assured I will post the results soon.

How many members have a Bandsaw for resawing

I have an Inca which I use for resawing I have friends with the Kity also good for up to 6 inches. However any of the better makes with a decent blade will do what you want. I too am not a great fan of the table saw but the bandsaw is a joy to use. You still need push sticks! The best way to...

Thanks for the review and warning. Cheap tools are very tempting but there is always a reason why they are cheap.

Have you seen the size of this !!!!!!!!!

I am hardly surprised the topic shot off in another direction. The lathe is mammoth, but so to is the completely self absorption of the seller. I reckon it could be difficult to sell as he seems to have excluded almost every kind of buyer in the secondhand machinery market from coming over for a...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Almost right Mark. I went in slap bang in the middle. 100mm drainage pipe fitting. It glued to the inside of the door with a hard polystrene adhesive. I just added the bolts for good measure (in hindsight not actually necessary) counter sunk heads of course. There is a lip in the side of the...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Yes I took the plunge and butchered my Inca bandsaw to control the sawdust spraying tendencies. I felt a bit bad about it at first, but once I got it cutting again I was very pleased with the results. Pictures tell the story. I also have an elbow piece under the table which the blade runs...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Very nice cut. I have found that the Inca (with a tuff saw blade) cuts through thicknesses of hard wood that it is not supposed to be able to cope with, without drifting. I just installed a blade and tightened the fence and got dead straight cuts from day one :D. I used the fence from my Inca...

Distance Selling Regs/Sale of Goods Act

You could ask for a non refundable deposit as these items are not only made to order but they are personalised. You could also make one and send it for approval. Why would someone want to return such an item that has been made specifically for them? Although someone could perhaps do this in...

    Drum Sander envy

Hello Danny, Well I got the new pulley installed and then I was snowed under an avalanche of other work, so I won't be able to tinker with the Drum Sander for a day or so. I reckon it will be the weekend before I manage to post the results. Swapping around the wires is a two minute job for...

Why are shoulder planes so expensive (even secondhand)?

I am interested to read that the shoulder plane is really intend for the shoulders and not the cheeks. Sometimes it takes some one else stating the obvious to actually comprehed 'what's in a name'. #-o . Perhaps it is because I have read so many times in woodworking books that you should shave...

Why are shoulder planes so expensive (even secondhand)?

Can anyone explain why shoulder planes are so expensive? They go for princely sums on Ebay. Axminster make a 'cheap' 29 quid job is it any good? I saw a used Axminster one fetch 26 pounds on Ebay last night! Is that just ebay madness. And finally is a shoulder plane so much more effective than...

    Bandsaw v's Table saw

I wish I had listened more carefully to people before I bought my tablesaw. Although a tablesaw is very useful I now find that I use the bandsaw, which I bought much later, for almost all my machine cutting. Lots of woodworking books say that you should buy a table saw first, but a bandsaw is so...

    Bandsaw recommendation

No I have not used the Meber. I bought an Inca secondhand in the end which is a smaller range bandsaw although it can tackle 150mm oak it is probably a little too small for what you describe. I did do a lot of research in trying to decide what to buy. Meber have been in business for absolutely...

    Bandsaw recommendation

Have you considered contacting one of the Italian manufacturers directly? I was offered a Meber 400 delivered direct from the factory in Italy for 1650 Euro including VAT just six months ago.

    Drum Sander envy

I can't believe it the supplier gave me the wrong size of bushing for the pulley wheel today! So back off there again tomorrow. Looks like I will have to wait another day to see if slowing up the drum speed helps to prevent the abrasive tearing away.

    Drum Sander envy

Hi Danny, I am picking up the pulley in the morning it needed changing anyway as the drum was rotating way too fast. The plans asked for equal sized pulleys but a 1400 rpm motor and I got a secondhand motor later on which was 2800 rpm and did not think about checking the speed. Then when I did...

    Drum Sander envy

I think that is why the hook and loop (velcro) abrasive is popular with lots of people who build one of these sanders because it grips the drum over its entire surface. Perhaps sandpaper glued to the drum underneath the clamped on abrasive would have the same effect. As soon as have installed...
