Sold Charnwood W850 Lathe For Sale £275 ono

I’m selling this lathe on behalf of the family of a past member of our woodturning club, with proceeds to be split between our club and the local hospice. It has been well used, with a good deal of dried finishes on the paintwork, but it works as it should and has been fitted with new bearings...

    New to turning

"The link above takes me to a page with multiple items showing and I'm not sure which chuck I should be looking at?" Sorry, I was referring to the PRO-TEK SuperNova2 Chuck Bundle £129.99. This will give you a good chuck and a nice selection of jaws to get going, and a screw chuck. There are a...

For those who are following this thread with a view to purchasing a chuck, this is a superb value package currently being sold by a number of vendors: https://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/nova-teknatool?redirect=1 Very similar to the Record Power SC4 chuck and currently available direct threaded...

    Bandsaw choice

I have a Charnwood bandsaw in the For Sale section. Right at the top end of your price range and not a Startrite but a decent saw nevertheless. Located in Northampton. Duncan

    Sold Charnwood W740 16" Bandsaw For Sale - £550 o.n.o.

I’m selling this bandsaw on behalf of the family of a past member of our woodturning club, with proceeds to be split between our club and the local hospice. After cleaning it up and fitting a new blade it cuts beautifully and can be seen and tested at my home in Northampton. Maximum cutting...

    Bent drill spindle

Ask Sealey if they can send you the dimensions of their spare spindle. If it seems to be the same as yours, it's worth risking a few pounds. Duncan

    A little safety warning

Returning to the original post, no matter how careful how careful we are, it only takes a microsecond to have an accident. This was well illustrated by Lynne Yamaguchi in her accident some years ago and in her tremendous attempts to educate others on the perils of spinning lumps of wood...

Table saws, full sheets & wide pieces

You can make your own track very simply with a piece of flat sheet material a bit wider than your saw, that has glued/screwed to it a length of straight wood to hold the saw against. Cut along the length of the sheet and you have track which can be aligned to your cut marks. There was also a...

    Help MT2 stuck

Leave your jacking gear in place, cranked up to max, throughout the following. Leave it immersed overnight in penetrating oil. Once removed and cleaned off, heat the shaft as fast as you safely can (to limit heat transfer to the MT inside). Spray a can of freezing fluid into the MT. It may just...

    Lathe Tool Storage Rack

Not elegant, but drill holes near the end of the handle and hang on any suitable pegs or hooks? Duncan

    Reverse direction turning safety

Not always practical, but bringing up the tailstock will prevent the chuck unscrewing itself because it has nowhere to go Duncan

    Small compressor?

From the Amazon link that you gave: "Vastar team is a responsible team. We provide you with the best quality intelligent air pump. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, we will give you a satisfactory reply within 48 hours." Why not ask them? Possibly such a small compressor...

    Thread sealants

Copaslip is wonderful stuff but does tend to wash out, we used it mainly for higher temp stuff where it helped with disassembly . Lubricants and anti-seize products shouldn't be used on torqued fasteners without checking the instructions first - it can make a massive difference to the stretch...

Another newbie looking for a lathe

Personally, I wouldn't buy the Rutlands lathe unless you are sure you'll never want to upgrade. It's quite a decent package, standard clone basically, but has a 1" spindle (standard nowadays is M33), the toolrest looks awful (but may be OK), the motor looks to me as if it's DC, not induction as...

Is this too big for my lathe?

Another option is to reduce the imbalance forces by adding counterweights very securely to the blank, or even drilling out material that may be particularly dense and will be lost when turning to a bowl. Duncan
