    Tormek Supergrind 2000

An identical is about £25 on eBay, or just get a generic 4uf (again work out if it's just start or start / run that you need) is about £4

    FFX 7% off

They often participate in those 10% eBay sales too. If you keep an eye on the price of their eBay listings, the price of them always goes up just before the 10% sale. This is, in normal sales, an illegal practice, but I guess the fact that eBay's involved creates a loop hole. I'm not saying...

    Tormek Supergrind 2000

It's a start cap or a start / run cap. Caps are not unknown to fail in dramatic ways. It doesn't necessarily point to further issue. Replace it and it will likely be fine. If you can't get any sense from the manufacturer, they're generic things. So long as you can read the specs off the...

    Inflation Part 2

The rising of interest rates is a very old school way of dealing with inflation by limiting demand in the classic and simplistic supply / demand / market equilibrium price setup. At present the inflationary pressures are not internal to our own system but external to it. Our interest rate is...

    FFX 7% off

You have to watch out with ffx. Theyre a bit like DFS, or Halfords - there's always a sale or voucher code or eBay offer with them. Other places that have a sale actually have a lower price than normal, but not so much with ffx.

    Resin use

I use that "perl" colourant the bulk of the time. I think is more like a "dust" in the resin, rather than a smaller particle size "dye". Ive not found the staining as bad as the dye ones. But then i guess i dont really ever get it near much cut end grain, so i probably wouldnt know how well...

    Resin use

Be aware that the slow setting resin will creep (as you want it to) and find cracks to leak out of that you didn't even know existed. In the early days it wasn't uncommon for me to end up having to mix more resin as it had all ended up below the job without me realising...

    Resin use

You get different setting times for resin. The slow setting ones are tedious BUT they are all I use, as they creep so well, and penetrate down into the job over time. So I just accept the time element. They all give off heat as they set. Another advantage of a slow setting one is that you...

For Sale Dewalt DW125 Radial arm saw / Axminster AW106PT Planer Thicknesser

Dewalt DW125 Radial Arm Saw - I had a bit of a hurried (deadlined) attempt to sell this some time back, and then it got forgotten when I had more time, but im getting around to things again, so here goes - DW125 (which, so far as I've ever been able to tell, is the same as the 1251) Nice...

Removing oak veneer on solid oak shelf

Was the item listed with the only delivery option as "collection in person"? I suspect it may have been. If I was selling somthing under those terms, and someone chose to send a courier, I think it would be difficult for them to demand me to cover the charges, ESPECIALLY if I had, in...

    drum sander?

This backs up my experience exactly. I knew I wanted one. I think it probably took a couple of months, and, close to the end, I was refreshing Facebook etc two or three times a day. And, as I said, made a (according to Google) 2hr 50min (one way) trip the next day to pick it up. I think...

Removing oak veneer on solid oak shelf

If the item was "pick up only" then not certain that the seller is liable for anything other than the refund on the goods.

    drum sander?

I've got one of the large'ish Axminster ones. 635mm wide I think. I (mis)use it a lot and it's a brutal enough machine. They are insane money new, but I looked relentlessly for some time, and, when one came up, not much short of 3hrs away, I drove there the next day. I think I paid £600 or...

    storing 6" sanding discs?

I went for the plastic thing in the end, £25 delivered ( Artbin Super Satchel Double Deep Box with Removable Dividers **Empty** 6990ab | eBay - Artbin 6990ab ) as i was just sick of moving around individual boxes, and it was a quick solution. Thanks to all above.

Current state of play regarding inverters for dual motor Wadkin thicknessers?

Yes and no - I got a 7.5kw inverter off amazon for about £80 on one of their times when suddenly the price drops for some unknown reason (they were £400 again the week after) and then a small one for the feed motor. But, no, the machine isnt back in one part yet. And my friend got himself a...

    storing 6" sanding discs?

I'd keep them in the boxes they come in, but they fall apart. Possibly the simplest option is to tape them up again, but does anyone have a better idea? I dont want to go to the trouble of making a wooden box, id rather just either get the brown tape out, or buy somthing! There's an american...

    Hello from Plymouth

Ps. If you're on the pallet wood, keep an eye out for the crates that slate get delivered to builders yards in. A lot of the slate now is Brazilian so the crates are made of (unknown) hardwoods rather than the usual pine. Sure it's ropey enough but certainly work keeping an eye out for.

    Hello from Plymouth

I've got a couple of the yellow Clarke contractor tools from machine mart, one of which is their hand held belt sander. I probably got it on one of their vat free offers, and, for the money, it's a proper brutal bit of kit. It's great for cleaning up rough wood before risking nice blades, but...

A labour of love - restoring old woodblock parquet

Can I ask you how you physically laid the parts on the floor? What I mean is it looks like you're pretty gap free, which must be as a result of both accurate cutting and also laying. For standard tongue and groove chipboard floor I've used those clamp ratchet strap things to pull them together...
