Building a workshop in an old stone built barn

Great project, I did something similar in an milking shed where we used to live.. I laid a DPM then a hand mixed concrete floor to level the floor with a builder friend. I also drilled the wall (every 300mm at about a foot high) and filled with a liquid DPM to stop rising damp along with the...

Can you buy decent door furniture anymore?

I would add... get some gun makers square slotted screwdrivers for brass screws as they are square and do not taper like electricians screwdrivers.... Thus they do not "slip" and wreck the head of the screw you are trying to drive in. Good luck.

    Sharpening

I would report your potential exposure to the local council. My Uncle sadly died of asbestos poisoning, he was a GPO engineer for literally a few years before eventually running Telco's sales around the world. To work out where it came from it was theorised as an old GPO engineer (like my old...

what does the inside of this door panel look like to people?

Each building has an asbestos register by law stating where all the known stuff is located. Doubtful it's in the door but you never know. Usually it's in lagging for pipes ceiling / floor tiles old toilets etc...but then again it COULD be in the door..? You never know. Only tradespeople can view...

We (UK based) all chip in for a batch order and split the shipping??? :) Thanks @D_W the information and your explanations are very valuable. We woodworkers do tend to get ripped off by these tool salesmen / makers who make unsubstantiated claims about how great their steels are! You have...

    New Toy

As an ex BT engineer we used to have "platform" engineer drivers for accessing electrical poles and poles with low wires on them etc. They are a must, but please promise me to get a step in body harness and attach yourself to the cage. The amount of people (not BT but other utility comps) who...

    Joinery Workshops

Hello there, I wondered if "anybody out there" in the world of woodwork would know of any joinery / cabinet making jobs (or company owners!) wishing to hire a newly skilled maker (Career change from Telecoms (BT) ... at 37/38 years old)? I'm living in Somerset (Originally from Manchester) but...
