Post a photo of the last thing you made

Nice egg cupboard, I like it but my wife also saw it and asked why it needed a door?

    Upcycling a Solid Marble Table

Haha Brilliant! and it just so happens that I have a matching base.

    Upcycling a Solid Marble Table

Nice idea but it seems like I would end up with a very posh gardening work bench. I'm not sure the effort is worth it though.

    Upcycling a Solid Marble Table

I had considered keeping a section of it for a sharpening plate but, judging by the comments here, chopping it up is goig to be a challenge.

    Upcycling a Solid Marble Table

I have a large black/brown solid marble (top and base) coffee table. I've never really liked it but my wife does therefore my opinion is irrelevant. It cost a fortune and sits in our living room as a constant reminder of the day we bought it. Anyway, we are moving house next month and my wife...

A plea to the moderators and Charley

Speaking as a recent 'victim' I would say that I agree that when the thread goes 'off topic' it should be continued elsewhere. I don't have a problem with the prolonged 'discussion' about whatever a saw nib is for but it was somewhat disapointing that whenever I checked the new posts in my...

    Moving my workshop 200 miles.

I'm about to do something similar but over a much greater distance. I'm moving 1300 miles to Hungary in about a month. The contents of my workshop are similar to yours but my lathe is only(!) 110kg. I will be employing a 'man with a 3.5 tonne van' who I found by advertising my requirements on a...

Free Hand Saws - should I restore them?

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions and nib related education. I'm not very interested in returning any of these to a clean and shiny state unless they are also fully functional so, this is what I'll do - Saw 1 - throw it away Saw 2 - salvage the spare parts Saw 3 - use the restoration...

Free Hand Saws - should I restore them?

I was fortunate enough to be given 4 old saws but they are in need of some TLC. I'm not really interested in restoring them just to have them collecting dust in my workshop but I would certainly do it if I could use them. So, opinions please, on whether these saws can be restored for use. Saw 1

Help on Identifying a Wood Species

I've recently used it for first time to turn a small box on the lathe and it was easy to work with and the end result was very pretty. It has a lovely golden shine.

    Clamp Refurbishment

Well, that escalated quickly! I'm a recently started hobbyist so I don't have much knowledge on the quality of historical clamp/cramp manufacturers. Ideally, with unlimited finances, I would have bought some new Bessey pipe clamps but I got these 5 for less than the price of one Bessey. If they...

    Clamp Refurbishment

I'm not sure you have the right idea about which clamps I have. I bought 2x 6ft, 2x 5ft and 1x 4ft T bar metal (and very heavy) sash clamps so, definitely not cheaper.

    Clamp Refurbishment

Thanks for the suggestions, I like the 6" nail idea so I'll have a go at that. Now I just need some nails and a ballpein hammer!

    Clamp Refurbishment

OK, I thought it might be a simple matter to find suitable replacement parts but, barring that, I would rather make the bits myself than 'Heath Robinson' it with string and duct tape. If I could afford better clamps I would have bought better clamps.

    Clamp Refurbishment

I'm not bothered about the looks just the functionality. The replacement bolts are threaded all the way and will damage my delicate hands!

    pet hates

On the subject of toasters - mine has settings that range up to 7 but produces perfect toast on number 3. If I put the setting up to 3.5 then I get black toast so what are the other settings for?
