    Workshop storage cabinet

It's just the base frame that is made from timber, the rest will be plywood.

    Workshop storage cabinet

Yes, that's the kind of thing I mean although I'm not sure I fully understand your suggested method. Mike, The cabinet will have a worktop which will probably be where my sharpening and finishing gets done that's why I'd like to get the height right. The plan actually specified 3 1/2" x 1 1/2"...

    Workshop storage cabinet

I've just moved into my new workshop and the first large project is going to be a storage cabinet. I have found something suitable on youtube which has a free sketchup file. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtdmzpHixnU&t=1152s The unit is made from a base of 2x4's covered in OSB and the 3/4"...

Infinite supply of olive wood - now what?

I think the benefit of gluing lengths of squared wood together is that they are then processed in groups which makes it easier to glue together. Trying to do it with individual pieces would be more difficult.

Giving out Bank details to a purchaser

Before I retired I was self employed and I had to invoice my client weekly and I made sure my bank details were always on the invoice to remove the opportunity for them to claim they couldn't 'find' it. I've also handed it out whenever necessary for online purchases and vice versa when I pay...

how to stack goods on a pallet

They seem to be a lot slower than a human could do it and there had better not be any weight in those boxes if they can only lift them by the top.

    Simple project

That looks great, I really like it but my wife would not be able to live with the 10mm shadow gap as that's where all the spiders will be hiding!

    Cement

Here's some before, during and and after pics. I have some LED panels for the lights which I'll install once I have access to my workshop tools and can make the frames. The socket on the end wall has been left until the rest of the rewire is finished as there is a 3 phase cooker supply...

    Cement

Sorry, just noticed your post. The depth was about 3cm. The house has concrete floors and brick walls. I followed the advice above and made a mix with some small grade gravel for the floor and put a render/ready mix product on the walls and ceiling. Job is done now and looks great. In a couple...

    Brass in electric plugs

Having recently moved abroad and not being one to throw anything away unnecessarily I now have a drawer full of used UK electrical plugs which I can't imagine I will ever need again. I was thinking of cutting them down and adding them to small wooden pieces for decoration, has anyone done this?

    Mattresses

+1 for Hypnos. I used to stay in Premier Inn when working away and occasionally on holidays and me and the Mrs were both very impressed with how comfortable the mattresses were as we both suffer with back trouble, so I bought one. Not cheap, around £600 about a year and a half ago but definately...

    Cement

Thanks for the advice. I've managed to find out what the builder used and the name translates as 'insulated glue' which is a cheap and weaker version of tile adhesive, apparently.

    Cement

OK, thanks. It sounds like the technique you describe from Spain is what they do here in Hungary. My builder just mixed the powder (looked like cement but came in a different bag than the cement I have left) with water in a very dry mix and coated the walls using a fibreglass mesh sheet to hold...

    Cement

Hi Mike, thanks for the response. The cement is still dry, that's OK, my question was more fundamental in that, is it the same cement that is used with aggregate for concrete that I could now use as a form of large scale polyfiller? The reason I ask is that the builder used a different product...

    Cement

Following my house renovation I have some cement left over which was used with aggregate to build a level floor prior to tiling. I'm now working on the basement (new workshop) and I have knocked down a wall which has left a 20cm recess in the floor, walls and ceiling all round. Can I use the...

Post a photo of the last thing you turned (!)

That looks great. I want to give it a try myself and, of course, I've watched countless Youtube videos on the process but they always make everything look simple and problem free. Would you mind giving some detail on any issues you had?
