So then, busying yesterday with the small rebate plane and there is an old geezer always speaks when walking his dog comes over as he sees me messing about and we get chatting about the Old tools and stuff and he is telling me how it was all done in the old days...

    So then, back to the small Plane .... I need to re profile the bevel and have it bevel down as thats the way it is intended to be ? and close the gap between the blade and the front of the opening ?

    Could the screw be replaced with a bolt with washer underneath then it could be done with a small spanner?

    So then, up at 5.40 it's been on my mind all night! Out to the garage took it to bits again, re sharpened the blade to be double sure, reassembled bevel up but really not sure it should be as then it leaves a massive throat in front of the blade? But..... it seems to work better!

    Well going to give it a try bevel up in the morning ! The Back of the bevel as the blade is in now is deffo not below the cutting edge, if does cut but is poor!

    Hi all, have had an interesting but frustrating day trying to re comission a small old plane I purchased of tinterwebby. Stripped it cleaned it as best I could and then set about trying to flatten the sole and sharpen the blade, 1st time ive had a go at this, not sure if it's the style / type...

    Not sure if anyone has had a look at the video the original builder put up the web, but he used 100x50 pse so all of the sketch up drawings were easy to manage and mark up timbers for him ! Only thing avail to me locally was 95x47 pse so had to re jig all of his sketch up drawing measurements...
