So, do most of you use sketch up for your designs?

No, Fusion360 at £0/year. Minor limitations, but generally insignificant.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

The problem with using LEDs in oven lamps is the operating temperature range. This will genrally be in the region of -25 - 85C, with a maximum junction temperature of perhaps 100C. Standard ovens operate at up to ~250C, with self-cleaning cycles going to higher temperatures.

    Stupid injuries

Spot on. When a task is new to us, we do it with cognitive involvement . When we are well practised, we rely on muscle memory etc, and can carry out even fairly complex tasks - think of driving a car - with little cognitive involvement. There is ample evidence, from a wide range of varied...

    DC Motors

I’ve been toying with a similar idea, having read about some lathe conversions to brushless dc motors on one of the model engineering forums. There are some kits comprising a brushless motor and 230V controller, intended for industrial sewing machines. There are versions rated at 550 and 750W...

    Fence painting / Varnishing advice

2 comments: I’ve always used one of the wood preservatives that soaks in, rather than the water-based paint types. Something like Barrettine Wood Preserver | Wood Finishes Direct I think the paint type ones (Fencelife etc) age terribly. A cheap insecticide sprayer is by far the easiest way...

    16amp circuit

Spot on about inrush current. In the case you mention, I suspect that the problem that the combined inrush current of the bandsaw and vacuum cleaner were sufficient to trip the circuit breaker. An alternative approach in this setting is simply to delay the switch-on of one of the two devices...

    Drilling tiles

Depends on what type of tiles you have. If they are standard ceramic tiles, with a hard glaze but a soft, almost plaster-like body, then the process is much as described in the previous posts. Apply masking tape to prevent the drill point skidding, use one of the ’shield’ shaped glass-drilling...

Matchfit dovetail clamp system or UJK dovetail T track for the mitre track on router table?

The relief bit is not part of the Pro set. It’s about £30 more. Matchfit is not cheap!

Matchfit dovetail clamp system or UJK dovetail T track for the mitre track on router table?

The Matchfit devices seem to be all about providing flexibly-located fixed points for clamping etc. I’m not sure how well a mitre square or coping sled would run in a dovetail groove machined into MDF of ply. So, for this purpose, I’d go with the aluminium track. And bear in mind that most...

TENS replacement pads on eBay - avoid - skin damage

Of course, TENS pads are medical devices and therefore subject to regulation. You should probably contact the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Do the pads or their packaging bear a CE mark?

    Maths help required

Another issue with 3D printing circular holes is that they generally print slightly under size because the printer creates the circle as a series of straight-line segments. My experience is that this is generally of the order of 0.3-0.5mm. You can either take care of it in your CAD drawings...

New Lawnmower has leaked oil and has creamy thick residue in foam filter...

A few pointers about those small Briggs & Stratton engines: The air filter is made of foam, needs to be oiled (lightly) and squeezed to distribute the oil. The approved method for draining the oil is to remove the dipstick and invert the mower so the oil runs out of the dipstick hole. That’s...
