    Recommend a finish

Made a little box for a present, it will be a late one Can’t remember what the species is! It looks nice just polished (needs some work yet) but I’d like to put something on to protect it. Will Liberon finishing oil followed by Briwax (my typical go to) be OK?

    Shed build, many many questions...

Pictures? :) Mines still in the Tyvek stuff too, but it seems ok at the moment. Cladding for back and sides (galv steel) has arrived but currently buried in the snow. Actually I did put foundations under my blocks to about the same depth - probably unnecessary but I’m not sure this will...

Looks like a nice bit of kit! Are the covers cast?

    Knob replacement

Don’t worry about the female part being D shaped, as long as it has a screw to bear on the flat https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224628334440?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=T3-hg_XFSte&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=UF8kLUg3SES&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY...

    Shed build, many many questions...

I didn’t spot any drainage holes but I’ll have a closer look. I’ve already fitted the external skin in 11mm OSB but I’ll remember that for next time.

    Shed build, many many questions...

That’s the plan - I could definitely get a sill but since I won’t have a matching UPVC door I think a wooden sill matching the cladding would look better and I’ll box in around the window. Just wondering if I’ve made any massive errors in the way I plan to fit the window, with the membrane etc...

    Shed build, many many questions...

Bit of a break doing other things, plus the vented soffits still haven't turned up and I want to have a look at it fitted before I make a decision about cladding, but I'm pretty set on corrugated steel on the side and rear (probably galv or painted black to keep it 'non-combustible' as I found...

    Milwaukee packout for screws

I used to be forced to use Bosch L-Boxxes at work, I hated them at the time but it was mainly because the lads abused them, they had some quite good inserts available. You don’t seem to be able to get the same with the Milwaukee boxes, but there are some 3D printed inserts available on eBay...

    New company, new career

Congratulations and best wishes for every success @Molynoox , I hope this doesn’t mean you’ll start charging consultation fees for advice on the subject  I hope you get approval to post a link to your website as I for one would like to have a look. A lot of trade / custom product /...

    Stair Handrail

Yes, really not good in my personal opinion, my wife is 39 and has bad knees and I mocked up a pigs ear and she hated it due to the lack of grip while her hands are still strong - just an opinion, quiz an occupational therapist if you want a proper view. https://www.ukstairparts.co.uk/ About...

    Stair Handrail

The widely available pigs ear profile is really quite puny when you look at the measurements, and you can’t get your hand round it. If it’s for an older person I’d be more inclined to go for a straightforward mopstick and ideally don’t even paint it just pick something nice like oak and avoid...

    EPDM roofing

Just done mine. Another thumbs up for Rubber4roofs, can’t imagine using anything else now, it was so simple. Needs to be applied at more than 4deg over 48hrs so time is running out for this year, I felt I just got away with it.

    Cladding suppliers?

That pic was really just to illustrate the wood against steel look, but to be honest I’m having as much trouble finding the steel - Cladco would be ideal but £190 deliver charge! I’ll contact them and see if they have any regular customers a bit nearer who might talk to me. Thanks for the tips...

    Mechanical pencil alternative

I got a Pica Pencil a while ago and love it. Couldn’t quite get used to the little sharpener at the end at first but I’ve got the hang of it now, and I never seem to lose it.

    Sold SOLD.

Still interested but also I’m broke. Will let you know if funds become available before it’s sold but if anyone else is interested go for it - that’s a cracking deal.

WIP: 6mx3m Pent Workshop build: Exterior Done!

Funny how these buildings end up looking so much smaller inside when you fill them with tools. I had a similar experience with a full sheet of plasterboard on a ceiling a couple of years ago, proper Laurel and Hardy moment as the prop slipped slipped before I could get a screw in and it broke...

    Shed build, many many questions...

I think installing the corrugated cladding horizontally looks pretty good, the only reason I can find so far to avoid it is cleaning. It would save double battening.
