    Rawlplug hollow wall plug issue

It seems a bit odd there isn’t a stud on the corner, but there must be one nearby. If you stick a long slim screwdriver or rod in can you find one on the adjacent wall? If so I’d be tempted to just try some long screws and attach directly to the stud, with spacers if necessary.

Good DIY morticer for infrequent use

In a past life I had the task of finding ‘cheap and cheerful’ machinery for schools, and morticers were always a pain - good ones would come up now and then for a reasonable price around the £500-£750 area, but they were still relatively flimsy and the really cheap ones just weren’t worth the...

I fancied doing some model engineering after nearly 60 years.

Nice work! I’d love to see it running.

Outdoor fence (spruce, larch and oak): how to treat?

I erected an oak fence with woven panels about 8 years ago, in England where it rains a lot. I didn’t treat it and it’s still in perfect condition. I did wrap the posts with these...

Wood identification! Sorry.. looks like another...

Do take care when handling and working with it - splinters can go septic and the dust is just as nasty https://www.wlwest.co.uk/species/greenheart-a-brief-guide-to-this-popular-construction-hardwood/

    Timber selection - advice sought

No, that’s a medieval torture device… it’s a bit of a chore doing the washing I agree, but it’s not that bad.

Could you not offer to sort the planning process (where required) as part of your price, to avoid hold ups?

Profiling cladding myself - am I mad?

I’m not following you, unless you’re imagining horizontal cladding? This will be vertical so hopefully all of it will drain off…

Profiling cladding myself - am I mad?

Well it’s arrived, could plane quite nicely but I think I’ll leave it rough. I may or may not get to this on the BH weekend, the steel on the other 3 sides has to go on yet.

Hexagon Shelves - Am I mad?

So where is he supposed to keep his hexagonal objects?

Profiling cladding myself - am I mad?

Like the table saw idea, but no dado cutters - kindling definitely a bonus! Challenge accepted I think.

Profiling cladding myself - am I mad?

I’m back on the never ending garden workshop project. Found a couple of choices of cladding locally available in small quantities (I only need to cover 2.2m height x 4.8m clad vertically). UK grown larch, very knotty which I don’t like, but profiled at least or Douglas Fir which I like...

Hexagon Shelves - Am I mad?

Love it, false backs to hide fixings? Great suggestions above. Make the fixings rock solid, even if it does seem a little over engineered…it would just be annoying if you had any doubt over what it might hold. I did a shelf spanning about 3m between 2 walls and didn’t want any visible fixings...
