    Issue with getting Record AC400

Axminster is also out of stock for at least further 2 weeks. Stiles and Bates out of stock. And my job does not look like (most of the time doing admin from home)but when the proverbial happens and and most people running away from the job I and my colleagues still have to push on and do the...

    Issue with getting Record AC400

Warning this is a bit of grumpy old bloke thread. One could say this is a simple task to get one of those dust filters. So I went to my local Machinemart as I am trying to support local shops. I the shop I was informed that they have not one in this particular branch but they will deliver it to...

    Coronet Consort chuck recommendations

Recently was renovating few hatchets and draw knives which needed new handles and after I shaped the outside they needed to be pre-drilled before I burned the tongues through and peened the ends.

    Coronet Consort chuck recommendations

I will need to measure the thread. I will need to keep the thread close to the head stock as I ma using the short base bar for it and there is already not much between centres.

    First time using cascamite

I can report it is bad. Some of the joints loosened just from vibration of sander I was sanding it with and some still hold. The glue which I can see is still opaque. Now my next question is how to fix this as taking it apart will highly likely destroy it as a lot of those joints were already...

    Project 2: Saw Vice

My one do touch at the same time however when you add a bit of pressure that the saw does not slide out middle is tight and ends are loose. Adding pressure does not significantly help. I was even thinking to shave the cork thinner to make it concave in the middle that the ends would touch first.

    Project 2: Saw Vice

Well spotted I did not line it with myself but cork which I thought would distribute the pressure more evenly as well as dampen vibrations.

    Coronet Consort chuck recommendations

Hi. I am complete beginner trying to do a little bit of turning such as handles for tools I restore, burnishing clickers etc. Few years back I was given my friend granddads' Coronet Consort machine which has a wood turning lathe as part of it. Unfortunately there is no chuck with it. Please can...

    Project 2: Saw Vice

I do not want to hijack your thread but wanted to ask how do you keep pressure on the jaws even the whole length. I could see at the BadAxe workshop their version how to deal with it by adding a clamp at each end which really is not what I would like to do with wooden vice. Tried to make my own...

    First time using cascamite

I am making a saw till. What Custard describes as second opaque option is what has happened to me. So far did not have time to play with the whole thing but I am still hopeful.

    First time using cascamite

I have to say that I am very worried as the glue in the pot was in places hard and crumbly and in other places a bit flexible. I peeled off some squeeze out from the piece I was making as I have missed bits and it was not too difficult. However I did not have yet time to plane it.I had only...

    Disaster! A broken water stone.

First I will answer Michelle. Old school would be to use what in UK you call pitch pine resin which was for example used to glue Coticules together in the old times. New more modern way is to use superglue. However from your description I guess your waterstone is one of the Eastern Asian type...

    First time using cascamite

I have never used cascamite before. After seeing and reading few threads about it I did not want to risk to have bad glue in first place and that is why i went to well known dealer to purchase it from. It was now sitting for more than 24 hours. It will be difficult to recognise if the glue...

    First time using cascamite

Did the rookie mistake. Had a big project (at least for me) waiting for glue up and after few weeks of being very hesitant bit the bullet and went for it. I mixed it up for about 3-4 mins in total. There were no signs of free water at all. I have added the extra water about half way through. I...

    First time using cascamite

Red few threads about this glue and as I needed long open time I went for it. Firstly bought fresh cascamite from well known wood working merchant. Followed mixing procedure 2 cascamite to 1 water (measure weight) after mixing the mixture was more crumbles than "cream" consistency. Followed...

Then I bought Famag, now I'm a believer, not a trace of doubt in my mind

Yes I have as they were sold by the same shop but the reviews were not so favourable as for Famag.

Then I bought Famag, now I'm a believer, not a trace of doubt in my mind

Just saving money for their forstner set as I do not make living out of woodworking and there is no reason to by annoyed with cheap stuff as you often buy cheap and have to buy twice.
