    Hardwood Window Cill

If left natural, how much would you expect it to expand and contract through t the year? Would it be appropriate to leave an external oak door unfinished, or would it end up jammed in the winter and drafty as heck in the summer? Thanks Col

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

Thanks Spectric, I appreciate the info. I can try both so I’ll have a look at the Busch as well. I actually quite like the vertical handle as I can use either hand with ease.

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

Thanks for the feedback, can you recommend a few to have a look at? I’m lucky enough to have a couple of local dealers who, between them, pretty much stock all the major brands so I can go and have a look at a few examples.

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

I’ve owned an fair few different brand power tools over the years, but I’m blown away by the quality and ergonomics of my Festool TS and router, so hoping the Kapex is a good replacement for my old Makita mitre station. Makita and dewalt of late haven’t impressed me, hence looking at Festool...

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

Exactly. I know it’s not the literal phrase of the word calibration, but it’s seems like this is the vernacular used all over the internet for confirming accuracy.

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

Great answer Hoj! Which model have you got?

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

How accurate is the Kapex out the box? Did it come calibrated and how repeatable and consistent are they? They’re not cheap by any stretch, but I’m hoping that with the price it comes with top notch accuracy, will I be disappointed?!! Cheers Col

Thanks. Any view on which sealer and top coat?

    Workshop/garage floor paint

I though this would have been done to death, but I can’t find much using the search. I’ve got a garage floor that is currently bare concrete, c.30 years old. A small amount of oil staining but largely ok. It’s flat and smooth enough. What would you recommend as a hard wearing coating system...

    Garden workshop - planning permission

My local authority run planning workshops several days a month where you can pop along and all the questions you like, for free! It’s not particularly well advertised, but I plan on taking full advantage of it. Here, for anyone else in North Yorkshire...

    Hardwood Window Cill

Thanks. It will be air dried European oak on a north facing wall. I’m more that happy to leave it unfinished and I do like the way it weathers so it’s a bonus if I can leave it like that.

    Hardwood Window Cill

Sorry, I know this is an old thread. Is there not a risk of it taking on water and swelling? I ask because I’ve got a couple of oak windows to make and was wondering how to finish. I like the idea of nothing as they will be sat in an unfinished oak clad porch. How long would they expect to last...

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

    Yeah, piece of cake!!

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

The Hoj. The roof on the extension will be pitched and will join the existing roof at 90 degrees, so I’ll be creating a couple of valleys. I’m not making life easy for myself!!

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

I must say that I’m the same! If I know I’ve not done anything to prevent the damp, I’ll be constantly paranoid!!

    Kity 619 - standard plug?

Not sure if I’m missing something, but a 2,200W machine running on 230V would pull 9.56A (I=W/V), so you would be OK on a 13A plug top. The issue if you are blowing fuses may well be in rush current.

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

Ah, I see why!! I confused myself! The front porch it this years job, the extension is for next spring!! Been drawing and prepping the porch all day so it’s on my brain, I need a beer! The last quote is testament to the fact I need to stop for the day!

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

It’s a front porch. Having read the regs I’m pretty sure it’s exempt, but like I say, I’ve a call with the local office next week to get a steer. Either way, I’ll still be building as if the regs apply, so it won’t make any difference.

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

Brilliant Hoj, thanks a lot. Option would be preferred as it means I do f need to hire a big cutter, and it’s one less thing to do! I was planning on using insulated plasterboard anyway, so that’s great. The TF wall is just standard brickwork. Pretty sure I won’t need building regs as it’s only...
