    Eurolock cylinders

Slightly different topic but when you said 'keyed alike' it reminded me of a house my parents bought on an estate in the 1970's. They had night latch locks, Rabbit brand. Keyed alike applied to practically the whole estate, I don't think there were more than about 5 variations of key all told. K

    Question for electricians

Hi all, I wonder if any electricins can answer this for me. I have a 6mm cable feeding an instant heat shower (6.5kW). There is a short section of cable (about 25cm) that runs in an uninsulated space and that space now needs insulating. Would there be an issue with local overheating of the...

    Buying cheap tools

I try to avoid cheap tools now, having learned my lesson the expensive way. Even though I am not a tradesman, just a keen DIYer. I have a box in the corner of my shed with ssorted Power Devil and Nutool toola, all bu@@ered. There is a router, 2 angle ginders, a 24V cordless drill and a SDS...

Another newbie looking for a lathe

Definitely agree with you there Alex. I have read so many bad reviews of these. K

    Metalworking in a woodworking shop

This is a daft post. Why don't you guys do what I did? Just build a separate metalworking shop. I have my 2 metal lathes, milling machine, surface grinder, metal bandsaw, CNC kit and radial arm drill in there and it's no problem. Oh, sorry, I think I must have fallen asleep, I just had a...

Getting the last Marmite out of the jar

Well I like both Marmite and Bovril though I haven't hd either for a few years so this post has prompted me to get some. As for tripe - I bought some for the dogs once and nearly threw up while cutting it up. Dogs seemed to like it though. My pet hate is -- (not trying to hijack the thread...

    Not so smart meter

We have been badgered by OVO to have a smart meter fitted, probably for over 18 months. We eventually agreed when they said our meter was no longer guaranteed to give accurate readings. They didn't turn up, but did telephone at 8:00 on the morning to cancel. They made another appointment for...

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

Thanks everyone, and I have decided to give them a wide berth. K

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

I keep seeing facebook adverts from a company called Temu, and was wondering if they are genuine. Does anyone have any experience of them? K

How do they get away with this?

I saw an advert for a compact tractor with about 9 implements, advertised in Cardiff - 50 miles from us so quite do-able. Very cheap price. On enquiring, it was in Devon and if I send the full price they would tell me where to go to view, they would arrange delivery, and refund the money after 2...

    ML8 Problem

The ML8 is an old, outdated design, limited in height over bed and in other features. I have had one for over 40 years, came from a school so was probably well used by the time I bought it. Despite the dated design, I think it is a very well made, solid machine that will just go on and on for...

    Which chuck do I need…?

I bought a chuck from Rutlands for my Viceroy (1 1/2 x 8) and it came with an adaptor, but it is not ideal. The adaptor is about 2" long and introduces noticeable run out. I bought a second adaptor from them but it is just as bad. I think the issue is the length of internal thread is just too...

problems with union graduate lathe and patriot chuck

I have a graduate (1 1.2 x 6 tpi) and a Viceroy (1 1/2 x 8 tpi) and there is no way the chuck would go even one turn if it was threaded 1 1/2 x 8. I suspect the most likely issue is the recess in the chuck being not deep enough, although do check the spindle for any burrs or other thread damage. K

    Axminster planer/thicknesser AW106PT2

Good that you are sorted now. I have one of these (not the p/t2 version). It work finr off a 13A plug. I find the 2HP motor a bit underpowered. However - to the point - make sure the dust extraction outlet is properly seated when changing from planing to thicknessing + vice versa because there...

    Grrrrr...Milwaukee, what a con.

I think AJP Temple has it spot on - we have sleep walked into a dependence on China, based on getting cheaper products, and now it would be impossible to escape form the stranglehold they have on the UK consumer (and probably the EU consumer too) without a massive change and immense disruption...

    Grammar Post

Children in school were taught grammar as part of key skills, but in my opinion, I myself personally think quay skills are a waist of thyme. K

Metabo KGS216M 216mm Sliding Compound Mitre Saw - help required

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any advice on replacing the spring that holds up the saw on this model. Any help would be much appreciated. K

Is pressurised hot water worth it, with oil?

Same as Nigel - solar panels with any excess diverted to immersion heater. Free hot water for about 8 months of the year. If we get several very cloudy days then we use the oil boiler for a boost. I think it is necesary to be careful the hot water cylinder does not stay just warm for an extended...

    Another boiler issue.

    Another boiler issue.

Thanks guys. I had a new pump installed at the same time as the boiler. The old boiler did not short cycle when used for hot water only, this one does when supplying hot water to the cylinder, and to the rads. It doesn't seem logical. There are motorised valves but they seem to be working...
