    Nearly got scammed

A friend of mine refused to pay his BT telephone bill (thus was about 29 years ago) because somehow scammers had managed to hack his line and all calls he made were at outrageous prices. He argued that by collecting the money on behalf of these scammers, BT were complicit in the fraud. I don't...

    Nearly got scammed

Hi all, we had an email purporting to be from Asda, inviting us to complete a survey with the chance to win a prize (a Tupperware set). All they wanted was £2 towards postage. We nearly sent it, we put in credit card details etc but we checked before completing the purchase and found several...

Old knackered Karcher K7.20MX 1.034-850 Pressure Washer

Several people have suggested Nilfisk. I bought a used Nilfisk commercial washer a while ago, and emailed Nilfisk to ask if they could sell a handbook / maintenance guide. No reply, not even an acknowledgement of my email. They totally ignored 3 emails altogether, so if you are thinking of...

Problems with online ordering - anyone else affected?

Hi all, I have been trying to order central heating oil online this afternoon. I have tried 3 national and 2 local sites and in each case there has been some sort of issue. I tried a change password option when logging in to one, and the re-direction page was garbage. I registered with 2 other...

    Floor Pillar Drill Stability

Well my arrangement is certainly stable, no hint of overbalancing, plus it means I can move the drill when I need to get to my spindle moulder which is located behind it. It doesn't feel like it is going to topple even when I am pushing it around. A big enough base is the key of course, and I...

    Floor Pillar Drill Stability

Mine is a fairly lightweight Axminster job. What I have done is bolt it to a home made mobile base - 4 castors and a square of ply about 30" square. Stable and mobile too. K

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

If you won't remove the crown guard then don't go making any videos for the US viewers. Nearly every one I have viewed seems to have the guard removed, and for no apparent reason (other than laziness perhaps). But I agree with you - mine stays on. K

    No Fault Evictions

I am sure most landlords could tell horror stories about tenants from hell. I was renting a first floor flat in a block of 4. The tenants paid absolutly nothing. They had their rent paid by the council, they had the gas meter clamped for non-payment, and they smashed the electricity slot meter...

    sand blasting

There is another issue with compressors, and that is duty cycle. My Wolf Dakota (Chaiwanese I think, from UKHS) is 3HP,150 litre but the instructions say maximum of 12 starts per hour, so this might be a problem with continuous use. K

    Viceroy machinery catalogue?

Hi all, I have three Denford Viceroy machines now (2 lathes and a sharpedge) and was wondering what the original cost might have been. I have old woodworking magazines and my old Myford ML8 is advertised there, as is my Union Graduate. There are also adverts for Recore, Coronet etc but I have...

    car boot find

The best deal I had was a Kity spindle moulder, the type that comes from a multi part kit and shares a motor. It came with a DeWalt head and a selection of about 6 pair of cutters, plus all guarding, adjustable fence , drive belt etc, but no motor or pulley, all for £30. Biggest job was carrying...

Has anyone bought onlin from Bawtool?

Hi all, as in the title - has anyone bought onlin from Bawtool. Their adverts seem to offer things much cheaper than many other places, so I am wondering if they are genuine. K

    Wiring a 3 phase motor

Hi again Sideways, and thank you for taking the time to post your very helpful response. I think I can proceed now. I have changed motors from star to delta before but that was just changing links over. This one with 4 terminals totally confused me. I have a VFD which I connected to a lathe...

    Wiring a 3 phase motor

Sideways - t he trouble is I don't know which wires to change. I have just the 4 terminals, 3 incoming from the supply, labelled 1, 2 and 3, and terminal 4 has 3 wires, black, white and yellow. There is no indication on the motor regarding how these 6 wires are connected. K

    Wiring a 3 phase motor

Hi again all, I have now checked the details on the motor plate. It reads - Volts 220/240/380/440 Amps 1.4/.8 HP 1/4 There are indeed 3 cables connected to terminal 4, black, white and yellow (the black one was hiding under the others). So, any ideas on whether I can connect it as it is to a...

    Wiring a 3 phase motor

I agree with Chailatte, it's not quite what I am after but thank you Spectric for taking the time to post that anyway - and it might come in handy in the future so I will copy it. K
