I was about to recommend a Brother P1800 Ptouch machine but they were last made in 2000! But it's still going strong 18 years later, so Brother might be an option.

    Radiata pine

Thanks guys. The reason I ask is that a friend has had a "bespoke" kitchen built and she was sold on the basis that all of the cabinets are "solid wood". That wood is Radiata Pine. I'm not going to say anything to her (long story) but is this really suitable for kitchen cabinets?

    rule breaking

Hey Simo, I wasn't upset that you didn't know the rules. I even thought about having a roll myself but I've got a box of precut already. Anyway, I didn't know what a luthier is, so I looked it up and learnt yet another thing on this excellent forum. You've sorted it out, don't be put off, I'm...

Quick qestion on use of table saw.

I'm a bit confused with this one. My table saw is designed to measure the cutting distance from the fence to the blade. Isn't that the only reason why the "waste" is to the left?

Fixing a mirror in a frame?

The last mirror I made didn't have a rebate. I screwed an MDF backing to the frame I made and then glued the mirror to the backing with special mirror glue. Having a think, it's been there 15+ years. Where has that gone? The mirror was 6mm and the edges were polished.

If the NHS want to make sure they get properly paid, a trip to our vet may help them understand how to do it.

Sorry, I was assuming new :D And you’re right about the table saw size but my head was thinking mitre saw (homer)

    New saw advice

If you have a lack of space then I think that a radial saw is going to be an issue and also many pounds in cash. A mitre saw is going to limit you to essentially cutting across the grain, but that's where I started with an old Elu machine, now Dewalt DWS777. As I recall, the width of cut was...

    New saw advice

That's interesting because I started with a table saw, which I have still got, but for cutting panels I now use a plunge saw. However, I do use both. One of the issues I have with my table saw is ripping long lengths of timber on the in-feed & out-feed (I think those are the terms). And...

    Mates Rates

Has anybody any experience of this? And I mean people that are asked to work for "mates rates", split into two types I guess. Those that are actual professionals and people like me that do a good enough job that I am often asked to do jobs for people. I retired 10 years ago and it was a bit...

Do you need to keep a tidy bench to produce quality work?

I find that when the workbench in my shed gets cluttered, I move into the garage.
