Church Pew to Corner Bench Build

Chems it looks good so far. I'm not very good on softwoods but that looks like pitch pine to me. Alan

    Rubber draft excluder sought

This is a rack I made for a friend https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... t=gun+rack He used an "archival" foam that he had previously used to house medals in cases. Do a google for archival foam it seems to throw up some possible options. Alan

    Getting equipped

Nick, It's referring to the fact that all saws will give a clean cut on the top surface as the leading edge of the blade cuts down into it. The sribibg blade cuts a shallow groove underneath before the main blade makes the full cut in the same place so the main blade exits it's cut underneath...

    Getting equipped

I recall a member having one of these who pointed out that it needed setting up carefully, and if the saw was moved at all, the setting would go out of wack. I'm not trying to put you off, but I reconsidered buying one on that basis as my saw gets pulled around the workshop from time to time. Alan

    Alternative to Mahogany

Sapele...but it is going to have a much more pinkish hue than the items to match with. The best stain to give the best results in my experience has been vandyke walnut crystal water stain. Experiment with the strength of mix to get the desired depth of colour. This method still excels in my view...

    Nettle stings

I agree totally with this, the trick with nettle stings is to not touch them at all and distract yourself by keep moving. they subside quite quickly if left alone...at least for me...we are not all the same as to what affects us to different degrees. Alan

where to buy nice full extension drawer runners

Mike, I used the screwfix ones and had no problems, they don't come with fixings, you can use ordinary srews or these which work very well, http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;jsess ... wer+screws The only thing I will say just to cover myself :-) I can't remeber whether I used 5mm or 6mm but...

    Drill Guide

Olly said Excellent, obviously tougher than it looks in the pic or very well engineered/designed. Yes I think the 19mm is a very snug fit but given a bit of use the holes will ease over time, I'm glad I chose that size. Alan

    Drill Guide

Looking at the "wood beaver" it only has a 1/4" shank. I don't wish to dampen spirits but if you're going through hardwood with that, given the pull rate of the thread in the centre, that's an awful lot of stress on it. The Screwfix bit I used needed a lot of force behind it to get through...

    Float Glass for flattening waterstones

Thanks Dave, That's worth knowing. The miserable scroats round here all wanted to charge even for an offcut, (picture :- fingerless gloves and scruffy tape measure) and as I say it's not cheap. Alan

    Float Glass for flattening waterstones

and...it isn't all that cheap unless you are very lucky. 10mm is required for any stability, even then it needs to be on flat mdf or similar Alan

    Drill Guide

I bought a set of these http://www.screwfix.com/prods/84016/Dri ... -6-Pieces# for the 19mm bit. I used a mains drill. To get perpendicularity I drilled someholes through some square blocks of wood 2-3" thick until I tested one to be perfectly upright, then clamped it over where I wanted to...

    Guitar Wiring?

If you are up for a challenge it is sometimes possible to unbend the lugs that hold the pot case together. Once open give the track a good wipe with an isopropyl cleaner, and buff up the end of the arm that does the wiping, may have one or two or three fingers. Gently increase the "set" or...

    Plane Kits

Ok, at the moment I have only a pic of the pre constructed smoother. I don't know when I am going to find the time to dig out the other one so we'll see how that goes. At the time the first tote for the smoother had a hole machined through so was no good, and one of the shouders didn't fit. On...

Aled, If you can wade your way through the archives here http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www ... rdtool.com 2006 and earlier not the 2007 as the name has been taken by a new company. The info is fractured but you may be able to dig out enough history. In general nobody seemed to like to...
