Also just re-read that bit...sounds wrong to me too! joists at 375 15-16" sounds fine but the 140 or 5 1/2 " or thereabouts ?? not sure what that would relate to. Alan

New workshop .......yes, I have stopped dithering

Tony, my boy! you know me, my rates are always very reasonable. Just come and see me and my mate Dodger and we'll work summut out! On the plus side Tony you'll be able to let that out as a holiday let if needs be...might even take you up on it myself....if you don't tell the missus :-) Alan

New workshop .......yes, I have stopped dithering

Hi Tony, Glad you are finally getting sorted. Firstly forget the green thing in no way is it suitable for what you want. I would go with the reinforced slab with thickened edges, that is what I used on my "summerhouse" and that is smaller than your proposal. As for the slabs I don't like the...

My child put in an eBay bid, can I cancel without penalty?

I accidentally bid on something and won two of the same item from a seller when I didn't intend to. I just contacted the seller and explained and asked if we could mutually withdraw from the transaction which he did. Most people are reasonable even if they get a little grumpy as you are not the...

    knife sharpening

I have a set of the V style of rods http://www.discountcutlery.net/en-us/dept_22068.html I bought them from woodcraft but they don't seem to do them anymore. They look very heath robinson but were cheap at the time. I realise that they are not the steel style you refer to, but thought I would...

TS2500 - blade height adjustment stiff

Hi Les, You cannot gain access to the saw unit by taking off the cast iron table as the saw unit is bolted to the underside of the cast iron that's where all the weight is. If you don't have assistance to turn the saw on it's side(I recommend not even if you are strong it can/could get away...

    Workbench height

Hi Steve Another belated welcome from another member of the Norfolk section. There are various consensus but based on many variables. I have found that a small difference has made all the difference to me. I started with a bench that was too high more designed for working on equipment stood on...

    Shed / Workshop Build

Mike, I have built a couple of buildings that I took straight off a slab. here's one I have since moved and will be doing something similar. I have a question about your preferred method of a couple of courses of brick. How do you make good and insulate tidily on the inside of the building...

    Granite Attachment

The people who install fireplaces have an epoxy specifically for granite and marble to glue to itself. I would have a chat with them see if it works on wood too. Alan

    Spraying formica or melamine

Well that is what this must be because they say it's real wood veneer but the bottom of one speaker has had a knock and a piece split out and it dfinately is like a plastice laminate. The surface of the veneer doesn't feel like wood either. I can see me having to strip it of to the base layer...

    Spraying formica or melamine

Bob, Under normal circumstances I would agree about the painted finsh not being agreeable. The thing is these are very small speakers and all the edges are radiused (hence their name Monitor audio radius) so painting them into an unobtrusive background for the time being seemed the way to go...

    Spraying formica or melamine

Hi All, I have been acquiring some secondhand speakers, one by one cheaply because they are all different finishes. Although they claim to be wood veneer they seem to be formica type of material. My intention is to spray them a Gloss or satin black. What I want to know is if anyone has had...

Table saw blade for ripping thick stock

I agree I've used them in the past on previous sawbenches and never had any issues...hard to see how you could. One thing though would be to just make sure there isn't enough space in the washer for the reducer to drift into thus losing support for the blade, unlikely I know but one of my old...

Cutting a square grid out of 6mm mdf -advice please?

My mind is wandering around to the idea cutting trenches/dado across the sheet at the appropriate angle. A piece of sheet for each direction of the lattice then cut the sheet into strips. Then glue the two together to form your "mesh" Alan
