What’s the best thing you’ve learnt from this forum

Thats a great idea! I had to make a lot of wedged mortices on my Multico morticer so 3D printed a multi step block that gives me three set angles. It slots under the column when loosened and then tightened down. Make the angle on one side then flip either the material or wedge. Great for getting...

    Jones & Shipman Drill Restoration

I have really been looking forward to getting around to cleaning this machine up. Had a bit of time so have made a start on it. Follows on from this thread: anyone-know-about-a-a-jones-shipman-drilling-machines-t115828.html IMG_3391 by jamie skinner, on Flickr Started by taking the motor off...

Multico B/1 Planer Restoration. I got another one...

I picked up another one of these small Multico Planers a few months back. With lockdown I have managed to get through a few machines I had waiting to be stripped and re-built. This is the original thread for the first one I rebuilt. Im only really going to include anything that was a little...

A Quick and Dirty Vice Restoration

Onto the lathe to start cleaning the cylindrical parts. In hindsight I should of just wire wheeled the lot, they came out to 'clean' for the rest of the vice. Untitled by jamie skinner, on Flickr I am going to put a knob on the end so if needed you can lock the handle in position. So drilling...

A Quick and Dirty Vice Restoration

I was given this Record Number 3 vice yesterday, I thought it would be nice to clean up and use on my welding table once it is set up. Here is what it look like to start with. Mostly surface rust, with a bit of WD40 I got it moving again. Vice by jamie skinner, on Flickr Vice by jamie...

    Costs of 3D printing?

I thought I might have gotten away with a thicker layer height. It reduced the time by 1/3. But ended up me printing it twice... For things like my INCA extractor: ultimate-inca-bandsaw-dust-collection-t114693.html The parts all pretty much have vertical walls so I can get away with printing...

    Costs of 3D printing?

And just by reducing the layer height back to 0.2mm we have a much better part. IMG_8694 by jamie skinner, on Flickr

    Costs of 3D printing?

When I got my first printer I didn't think much of it and almost sent it back. Slow, the things I could find online to print were just like toys etc... It wasn't until I started designing my own parts that I really saw its worth. There is a steep learning curve just designing prints that are...

    Costs of 3D printing?

You will want to look at your extrusion multiplier. Essentially how much plastic is pushed out the nozzle. To do this print a single wall (presumably 0.4mm) 20x20mm cube with no top, bottom or infill. Once printed use a digital caliper and measure wall thickness in multiple places multiple...

    Costs of 3D printing?

Here is my latest design 3D printed. 2 hours to print. I run a 1mm nozzle over the standard 0.4mm nozzle, so essentially I lay down plastic over twice as fast as a standard nozzle. This works great for the print I do as they tend to be big parts so really speeds up the time. I wanted to put...

Brief review of Triton TPL 180 big hand-held planer.

The machine will cut several mm deep, but in my experience of electric planers that is always a bad idea. So I cut between 0.5mm and at most 1mm per cut. Typically each face of a 6” sawn beam will require two or three cuts to get a clean finish. Zero sanding required usually. Totally agree...

Brief review of Triton TPL 180 big hand-held planer.

I used mine in a flattening jig for long/wide timbers. Runs on roller skate wheels on two straight beams. Parallel mechanism for adjustment . Very impressed with the capabilities and power of this planer! Build and improvements: my-portable-wide-slab-flattening-jig-t117420.html Wide piece...

    Startrite 14s 5 Welding Attachment?

I picked up this bandsaw recently. Inspected it before I brought it, however machine was in a position that I couldn't open the door and see the tires. Just hoped for the best. On delivery they looked good. There was not a huge amount of info I could find. I paid £400 for it inc delivery so...

Review/modification of Axminster's New cyclone top.

From Axminster: 'We recommend using a High Volume Low Pressure chip extractor with at least a 1.5hp motor' I recon 1hp would be ok though. I have a temporary filter setup which has really reduced air flow on my system. Was venting outside but got a noise complaint so... But it still worked...
