Rebuilding old shed - roofing question

Heating! That really is luxury... Not sure how any speakers would cope with the amount of dust that seems to get everywhere for me though

Rebuilding old shed - roofing question

That looks great. Where did you get the panels from? You may be right and keeping it simple is best. I was amazed what a difference insulating my workshop made to the condensation and dampness in there, and wanted to make sure I did a proper job! Sounds like the panels are pretty handy though.

Rebuilding old shed - roofing question

The existing structure would never support any kind of insulation - uprights are 2x2 as are most of the roof components. This rotting through and causing the asbestos roof to collapse has caused the need for replacement! Got the vapour barrier and breather membrane mixed up. Interesting to know...

Rebuilding old shed - roofing question

I have looked at them and they are tempting (if quite expensive). Do you need any of the vapour layers etc with them, or do you simply place them straight onto the rafters/purlins?

Rebuilding old shed - roofing question

Hello, I am looking to rebuild an old (quite large) shed. Given the amount of work that will be involved I thought it would make sense to make more work and replace the old rotten structure with an insulated one. I will be reusing the old dwarf walls to build the frames on, hence the slightly...

    Lets see your wood

A couple of slices of beech. Don't look very exciting at the moment, but the colour was pretty good when I cut them, so have high hopes.

I got hold of some green wood today. PVA glue as a sealer?

I find I have a much higher success rate rough turning stuff, then PVA and letting it dry compared with drying as whole pieces. Far quicker too. Once dry, turn a second time.

Axminster M33x 3.5 Woodturning woodscrew chuck

Try zorro tools. They do a great adjustable c spanner that is pretty cheap

Bought a lathe on a whim - advice need, please

You have done well - that is quite a nice little lathe, unlike some of the horrors that turn up second hand! I don't see any tools with it. Have you gone for carbide or traditional? Both work, I would suggest traditional if you haven't already decided as they give more a better finish and more...

    Removing cup from chessboard

If it is solid, how about a router sled? stick / clamp it firmly, flatten the top, flip over flatten the other side? Then just sanding to remove the marks where the individual passes line up (though if you made a perfectly flat sled, these would be tiny)

    Dealing with freshly felled timber

Waiting is the least of your problems - end grain dries fast. Leave it somewhere warm (it is going to split whatever you do) and you could be making stuff by Christmas. 2 inch is a bit on the thin side to aim to cut at. Rounds you see for sale at that thickness will have been cut with a chainsaw...

    Dealing with freshly felled timber

It is always a shame people cut them into such short lengths! If you are into turning, rough turning bowls and then drying before returning is a good way of getting large pieces without paying a fortune. Planking timber with a chainsaw is doable and great fun, but you need a fairly powerful...

    Product question......

For the stabilising this country seems quite expensive. All the Americans use cactus juice which is a fortune over here. I bought some stuff which is apparently the same and a bit cheaper from Poland, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Żywica ImpResin90 1kg If it doesn't need...

    Wood type advice needed

Is this for the blades? I think you will find it difficult to find one that looks metallic! There are a range of stains that may make things more silvery, but you would have to test on whatever timber you decided to use as the effect will vary according to wood type. My choice would...

It's taken a long time to build this, because I'm lazy.

Wow - that looks a bargain. Thanks!

    Which bandsaw for hobbyist

I am sure you will get plenty of similar suggestions, but have you considered second hand? Bandsaws are pretty simple and tend to last. If you wanted to go for a similar specification, these look comparable but a lot cheaper: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1130861707871107/...

    Product question......

It also looks quite small? Quick look up suggests it is just over 9 inches in diameter?

    Product question......

For single component thermosetting resins like cactus juice. You draw the air out of the wood and then atmospheric pressure forces the resin into the pores when the pressure is released. Seems very popular, especially in the US for stabilising soft pieces. I have not got round to trying it...

It's taken a long time to build this, because I'm lazy.

Very nice. I too have a little axminster saw and need to get round to making something like that as the stupid track size means any of the off the shelf mitre jigs won't fit. Do you have a link to the track and stops you bought? Thanks!

    Product question......

Doesn't it depend on what you want it to do? I thought it was pressure to remove bubbles in casting, vacuum for getting thermosetting resin into punky wood to stabilise it, or for a first pass to remove the majority of bubbles before hitting it with pressure to do the rest. Vacuum looks like...
