Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

I just got a response from Aldi - advising how to return it for a refund if I want to. No partial refund offered. I'm not sure if I want to try and make it work or not but a partial refund would have made it a more palatable option.

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Looked again - my base isn’t bent as much but still bent. Emailed Aldi about it. After a good hour plus of fettling I’ve come to the conclusion I may have a dud. Blade drifts towards the fence no matter what - checked and the blade is actually aligned at an angle. Tried blade centred, teeth...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

The base on mine has a similar bend - probably about 1/2" if I measured. Box looked fine so I doubt it's damage in transit - just poor QC at the factory. Setting up has been 'interesting'! Using the Alex Snodgrass method of centring the gullet on the top wheel, the blade is almost running off...

Ah - I never got as far as putting them in my basket. Might have to try the 1/2" instead

Mine arrived this evening- driver was from DHL so it maybe got better treatment on the way here 😂. Box looks ok - will hopefully get it out tonight. Someone said TuffSaws are out of 3/8”? Website doesn’t say that - did they email after an order?

And what blades come with it? I know the quality is likely terrible but depending on size might suffice for the occasional curve

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Got a 'what happens next' email this morning but nothing else. I would be up for a group buy - was looking at Tuff Saws last night but didn't want to order until someone confirmed for sure the length (or that the saw was the HBS261 rebadged).

    weird electricity consumption.

Have you calculated what the bill would be on a single rate rather than E7? E7 being designed for storage heaters I'm not sure you would see any benefit without them. You can contact the supplier and ask to be billed on single rate instead and run the immersion when it suits you.

That's frustrating - I've been doing the same. At least now I don't need to decide if I really 'NEED' a bandsaw again!!

    Britain's Best Woodworker

Just caught up with the latest episode - for me Billy should have gone. It wasn't finished, it didn't really look that good and as usual he has taken on something far too large with no plan and failed to deliver. The show in general has grown on me each week - it is at least as much about the...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Would be interested (and probably very very afraid) to see a table saw with a 12cm depth of cut. I reckon this little one could resaw narrower stock just fine if you are sensible with it. If someone has the space for a massive floor standing model with the infeed and outfeed to resaw 300mm wide...

    Holdfasts without the hold.

I always thought the does foot got tighter as you planed into it? A dog or stop holding the far end.

Should I make my workbench entirely by hand?

I did mine entirely by hand - Link - however I started with some laminated beams that were 'flattish' to begin with. It was still a long old process and I don't think I would have finished it yet if I had to plane everything from scratch. In fact it's still not finished - I've yet to cut the...

Does anyone know how deemed contract works for water supply companies?

A word of caution - I'm not saying you are wrong in any of the above but I used to work in the utilities industry and have first hand experience of a similar situation going to the courts. The end result was simply that 'by using the supply you have accepted the deemed contract and therefore...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

2nd was a marked improvement from the 1st episode. I'm holding out hope that we get to see more skills and better details as they get rid of the weak links. The judges still come across as soul-less creatures devoid of the joys of life - although I might be the same if I had to listen to Mel's...

    Paul Sellers Router Plane

Nobody can blame him for tool prices - everything on eBay at the moment is going for silly money. I've seen tents sell for more than RRP - whilst the shops still have them in stock at sale price. There may be a rush on items when Sellers mentions them but that would happen with any prominent...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

Looking forward to seeing Tim and his decking screws take on a dolls house! I watched it tonight - didn’t find it terrible but I do question where they found the participants. One openly admitted to having never made anything before - surely some level of ability would be considered a minimum...

    Shaper Origin.. again.

I want to preface this that I have no complaints with people spending their hard-earned as they see fit and doing their woodwork in their own way. With that out of the way…I see this as a very expensive way of achieving a very niche set of tasks. With £4k to spend, my first question would be...
