Why is cyclone extractor choice so limited here in England?

I have been thinking of buying one of these for sometime now, but the only options I have found here in the UK are. 1) Purchase a ready made one from Axminster 2) build my own In the US, you have JET, Grizzly, Bayleigh, Oneida ... If I had a machine shop here in the UK, I'd be tempted to...

How can Laser cut plastic discs have a tolerance of +- 1mm?

Haha!! I'm always looking for a new business idea.

How can Laser cut plastic discs have a tolerance of +- 1mm?

Frustrating, as I usually use a different company for the discs. They laser cut too, but theirs do come out bang on 20mm and 10mm. Lesson learnt. On closer inspection of the T&C's I cannot now see reference to a +/- 1mm tolerance...

How can Laser cut plastic discs have a tolerance of +- 1mm?

I recently spent £60 on having some acrylic discs machined. 10mm and 20mm diameter to be precise. When ordering on the web site it asks you what size disc you want in mm. The actual wording is below. Please enter the overall diameter of the Plastic Discs you require in Millimetres Minimum...

Calling all vacuum press users - is this big enough?

So the Chinglish (chuckle, not heard that before) would indicate it already has an oil separator fitted. Worth checking though. The first time I used my Edwards vac pump I literally saw a slight fog emanating from the exhaust valve. Not good for your health, but the flip side is that the fine...

Calling all vacuum press users - is this big enough?

Be a bit careful with the oil pumps. They pull a better vacuum to that of a dry vane (becker pump), but the downside is that the also pump out oil mist into the atmosphere, unless they are fitted with an oil mist trap. I have an Edwards lab pump which I use for degassing liquid polyurethane...

    Spray booth build

If you don't extract the air outside you will have to ensure your workshop is very clean, otherwise, any dust on the floor/walls will just get disturbed by the air from the back of the fan. They drag some serious volume through them. I vent mine outside just for this very reason.

92 year old ripped off by aerial company options?

Trying to gauge the best way forward here. My grandmother in-law recently called out the local tv aerial company as she was 'having problems' with her TV reception. Cut a long story short, they sell her a freesat box for £105 even though he TV has Freeview. My brother in-law went around and...

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

They do make some very nice stuff. They use concrete as opposed to GFRC This is a very nice sink.

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

GFRC is a fine sand / cement mix. You cannot use aggregate, so that look is out of the question. GFRC enables you to cast thin sections ~ 10mm. The strength comes from the fact that you use alkali resistant glass fibre in the mix. Even if you did use aggregate in the mix, you'd have to...

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

I think this thread has run it's course now. But before I just wanted to answer the points that people made about the concrete bases looking plastic. Apologies for that, it was just poor photos. I have taken revised images and as you can see, they look far from plastic :-)

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

If you are asking me whether I can make concrete worktops. Then, I'd have to say that I am not really setup for making worktops. If you are asking me whether you can make worktops out of concrete, then the answer is yes. Just Google Concrete Countertops. You'll find plenty of places making...

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

If I get my head down and back into my books then, yes it's very viable.

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

I agree that it is all a bit of a joke. Deep down I think I knew it was a pipe dream and unrealistic. I just didn't think too hard about it. As soon as New Year came and everyone went back to work I seemed to have a bit of a 'oh bugger' moment. This thread and all the replies just...

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

As already eluded too on here. If circumstances were different and money was not an issue then I'd still be tempted to get cracking. I'd rent a unit, buy the large 3 phase compressor that I need for spraying GFRC and branch into other areas. I'd also be tempted to purchase a cnc router...

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

Tail between legs. Have decided it's way too much ball ache to carry on with this. I might dabble, but on the side. The copyright thing is just another nail in the coffin for me. IT contracting at £500 / £600 a day seems like less of a hassle. Shame, as I enjoy being creative (copying) ;-)

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

If that one is frowned upon, I am sure I can sell my tools / machinery to the business OR at least offset an allowance for their use.

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

You lot may think I am nuts, but I decided the best way to see whether as copyright is being infringed is by emailing photos of my lamp to the company making 'The Lamp' telling them I have a revised and better version! If there is an issue, I am sure I'll get a solicitors letter.

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

The irony of all of this is the comment below from the web page detailing the "Benjamin Hubert Desk Lamp" http://www.dezeen.com/2009/09/21/heavy-desk-light-by-benjamin-hubert-for-decode/ "I commend the designer on his prolific output for the London Design Festival. However, it seems these and...

Taking my business forward. How and do I need to rethink?

Thanks Chas. Plan was/is to create a limited company. It shields our personal assets. Have even looked into selling my personal tool collection to the wife (she is considerably under tax threshold with her part time job) and then leasing the machines to the ltd company for a monthly fee.
