Options for finishing bathroom counter top in cold garage?

The plastic coating and hardener are a couple of years old. I might mix up another batch, stick the heater on and try it on a sample piece. As the RPC lasts for a good few days in a sealed container I can then use the same batch if it does go off this time around.

Options for finishing bathroom counter top in cold garage?

I have a counter top that I want to get finished and when I did one in the summer I used Rustins Plastic Coating, which worked a treat, but I tried Rustins this time around and it never went off. My initial thought was that I had gotten the mix ratios wrong so I then embarked on a painful...

Clamping mitred carcasses. Any tips on closing the gap?

That's an interesting approach but I think the ratchet strap idea would have worked a treat.

Clamping mitred carcasses. Any tips on closing the gap?

Thanks Steve. On reflection I'd agree that sash clamps are not the correct clamp. The ratchet straps would have definitely been the way to go as like you say the pressure would be acting across the joint rather than 45 degrees to the joint. I suspect 3 of these would have pulled the miter up...

Clamping mitred carcasses. Any tips on closing the gap?

I have just made a small bathroom cabinet using 18mm birch ply and mitred the sides together. I used a domino to joint it up, but I really struggled to get it to pull together tightly and there is a gap. I used cascamite so should be ok, but what is the trick and can you get this to work with...

Will carbon layers help torsional stiffness of laminate?

Ok thanks. I cannot do a box section and I was just planning on flat laminates to give me a 4mm thick section.

Will carbon layers help torsional stiffness of laminate?

Slightly off topic, but I am making a rack for my bike forks to hold a 5 litre pannier bag and was planning on using 2 * layers of 1.5mm aeroply and a number of layers of carbon / fibreglass and I wondered whether using fibreglass or carbon fibre will help to make the end product torsionally...

Refinishing oak floor. Dust extraction options?

I have one of these. and I also have a bosch 6" orbital and a 4" belt sander. The room is ~ 33m2 so not huge, but doing it with those 2 machines might take a while.

Refinishing oak floor. Dust extraction options?

Not hard wearing and I am too lazy to give it the required TLC. The floor is covered in water marks .... Going for a 2 part ultra hard lacquer this time around.

Refinishing oak floor. Dust extraction options?

it is quite staggering that in an age where dust extraction is high on the agenda the hire companies still hire out antiquated floor sanders with inadequate dust extraction. There are better models, but no one seems to higher them down here in Dorset.

Refinishing oak floor. Dust extraction options?

I need to refinish the oak floor in our house as I stupidly sealed it with danish oil 10 years ago (dumb idea!) the issue I have is that I really need to minimise the amount of dust that it created. The floor sander that I want to hire only has a stupid paper bag filter on it. I have a my own...

Current favorite water based kitchen cabinet paint.

Just wondering what water based paints those in the know are using for finishing kitchen cabinet doors. The doors are poplar with a centre mdf panel and I intend to spray doors and drawers, but will most likely have to hand paint the frames as these are fixed to the carcasses and I don't fancy...

    Wooden veranda?

Thinking of putting up a veranda on the back of the house, but not sure on the best approach for the diagonal sections that the glass sits on as once you have erected it you don't want to have to do maintenance on the top as it is very tricky to get too. Anyone have any experience of verandas...

    8' * 4' 1.5mm birch ply?

Does anyone know where I can buy 1.5mm birch ply in 8' * 4' sheets. I have a project that requires a larger size than the standard 1525mm * 1525mm sheet size. Google does not show up many results, but I am sure you can get it. It must be 1.5mm as I need to laminate it into a curve.

Fuji Spray Needle size for water based lacquer?

I have been using the stock 4H (1.4mm) needle when spraying water based lacquer / varnish, but I find the results hit and miss. Yesterday, I had a few instances where the gun sprayed out large drops. I also find it difficult to get a nice uniform coverage and tend to find sections of the piece...

    Argggggh. Timber *!^£$£$ worktops

Always the way. Could be worse. You could have thrown it out and then realised you needed it yourself. I might give that a try as the top is concave.

    Argggggh. Timber *!^£$£$ worktops

Slight confession. 5 coats top 3 coats on the bottom. There is no foil reflection under the dishwasher, so I suspect that again is my own stupid fault. I have just manged to pull it slightly flat by making up some 4mm steel plates which are screwed across the joint. I know this means the...

    Argggggh. Timber *!^£$£$ worktops

It's the third time I have remade the sink worktop with inset sink. First two times was my own fault for not spending enough time sealing it properly. This time around I put 5 coats of Rustins plastic coating on. Looks great, however, the section that sits over the dishwasher has dished by...

45mm foam core insulated garage door for sound proofing?

Yes. Many thanks for taking the time to do this experiment. Seems like the insulated door is a good way to go.
