What "smart move" did you make in your workshop today ?

Putting my triple layered jumper on. A bit chilly to say the least.

Any roofing experts here? Can I please pick your brains....

As others have said OSB should be fine. I myself went for plywood as I felt the more uniform finish of plywood would be better for adhering the glue to but have not seen anything to suggest this is the case, just my preference.

    Stolen Tools

https://www.change.org/p/theresa-may-mp-stronger-punishment-for-perpetrators-of-tool-thefts-from-tradesman-s-vehicles Just thought this was a good opportunity to add a link. This is a petition calling for tougher sentencing for theft of tools. Knowing people who have had tools stolen the...

    Machining Reclaimed timber/Scaffold boards

I think if you are going for the 'rustic' look then scaffolds are possible. Have seen a number of people do this to make clothes racks etc and look great (if you like that sort of thing). Have used them myself for someone who wanted a floor made out of them. I just put them through the wide...

Any roofing experts here? Can I please pick your brains....

'Can I ask which company you used for your rubber roof? I assume the rubber is going to be brutally heavy to lift up on to a roof?!' The company was called rubber4roofs. The Rubber is no that heavy, manged to lift it myself. Once its up on the roof you unfold and leave to rest then roll it...

Plug cutter to remove broken, rusted screw shanks?

Surely the real answer is throw and the cabinet away and build a new one! :D :D

Any roofing experts here? Can I please pick your brains....

Not an expert in this but have fitted a rubber roof to a 5 x 3 metre gym I built in my garden about 18 months ago. It was a measured kit (that's to say I gave the company the dimensions and they sent everything you need for that size). Mine was also fitted straight to plywood. I have to say I am...

    Tormek 2000 problem

Chas The shaft is oiled, will check the bearings when cold in a bit when in workshop but no signs of rust anywhere. Took it apart yesterday and when removed the stone and drive wheel the motor drive shaft spun fine (although didn't out any pressure on it to see if it stopped.). When put back...

    Tormek 2000 problem

I am having problems with my Tormek. Admittedly getting old now. Basically the wheel wont turn on start up without a little push! Also if I put any pressure on it at first it comes to a halt. After running for a while (minute or so) I can put pressure on it and use. I dont think it is the drive...

What would you do with this?

Thanks guys, was along the lines of what I was thinking. I reckon can cut the large burr off and get a good 10" bowl/platter out of it and still get a few large bowls from the rest as well. Took a moisture reading today and it is about 12% so I am guessing probably need to dry out a bit more...

What would you do with this?

i have been given a lump of ash that has some nice spalting and burls on it. The tree was felled about three years ago as the core was rotten but the outside is fine. It was left intact and was cut up this morning. Whilst sitting looking at it in the kitchen and thinking I should probably move...

    Startrite TS1

After prevaricating for as couple of years I am looking to get a new table saw in the new year. One of the saws I have been research on is the Startrite TS1. Have found a magazine review but that's about it. There are a few threads on here comparing this with the Minimax etc but nothing in any...

    Sliding sash windows

Have only done about dozen or so of these but as Doug points out the Mighton site is very helpful (their products are very good as well). In terms of the pockets, from memory, I think it very much depends on the size of the weights being used. My view is the whole point of a pocket is what...

What could possibly go wrong here?

Here's one (starts at 58 seconds in) for all those left over pieces of wood, and get fit at the same time. Mind there is a good chance you may get carted away!!!!!!! See what I did there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwn-vQD47Zk

    Accoya wood

More of an additional add on question than an answer but have also come across Thermo Treated Ash and Tulipwood which is apparently very stable. Have used a fair bit of Accoya and Tricoya but wondered if anyone had any experience of using the thermo treated woods.

    oak kitchen worktop

I agree with AJB. If they are that warped get new ones. I assume you cannot return them. Also have they been oiled. If not and cannot be returned it may be worth giving them a few coats on both sides as this may deal with some of the issue (although in no way a guarantee) making sure they are...

    'Clear' non yellowing finish?

I had a job recently where they wanted a clear finish for external furniture and found a product from Polyvine. Its a flat matt exterior varnish. (http://polyvine.com/index.php/en/exteri ... od-varnish). It does need a lot of coats though (think it was there satin coats and then 2 flat coats)...
