    Cleaning new machine

Hi all, I am the proud owner of a new Jet bandsaw. The cast table came, as they do, with a protective oil/wax coating (I think its that). Does anyone have any tips/advice for what is the best thing to use to clean this off with.

    laptop advice sought

Now, I am not an expert on these things, like most things in life I know how to use them quite well as long as I don't have to start tinkering or fixing them (a number of money saving car repairs spring to mind!). But for what its worth - I bought a new laptop from Dell last January which had...

    Drive belts

Hi, My sanding machine drive belt has worn out. Does anyone know of a company that sells belts. Its only a cheapy machine but works fine apart from needing a new belt so seems silly to get rid of it. Have had a quick look on the internet but cannot find anything. Many thanks

    Dado blade - why not...

Appreciate this is old hat to a number of you but have to say I found the opinions and explanations very interesting and thought provoking. As someone who has never used one but has often thought about it I find these discussions great. I have always been a firm believer in maintaining a...

    Workshop heaters

Thanks all really helpful. Think will go for a combination of oil filled radiators to keep the ambient temperature up (although have a power shut off switch for workshop when not in use so will have to think about circumventing that) and a fan heater for a quick blast of heat. Have seen a...

    Workshop heaters

Does anyone use oil/paraffin heaters in their workshops? If so are they (for want of a better term) fumey? Was just wondering about how much ventilation they need and how safe they really are in what is a dust filled environment most of the time. I guess the same applies to electric heaters...

    Planked Oak

Thanks for the useful advice. Good point about the cuts. Was thinking to quarter saw one and rip the other assuming I go for 8' long planks. Now all I've got to do is get it to the saw mill! Should be fun.

    Planked Oak

Hi all, Not posted for a long time but had a question. Have been offered by a forester friend of mine some oak. It is basically a big tree that was blown down in the recent storms. Now it obviously needs cutting and planking but wondered if anyone had any advice about lengths and thickness of...

    Plans for a Chicken House

    Plans for a Chicken House

Hi all, long time no post. Having now moved out of London and into the wilds of Kent we have decided to get some chickens, as you do! I of course plan to build a house for them myself rather than buy one (which do seem really expensive). Has anyone got or come across any plans for building one...

    Pre-finished plywood

Thanks all, have given me something to think about. I guess I naturally shun away from MFC because of past experiences but seems as though it has moved on somewhat. We are moving next week and plan to start on the new kitchen as soon as my workshop is set up so will let you know how it all goes.

    Pre-finished plywood

Wonder if anyone can help. I'm about to move to a new home and will be building my kitchen from scratch. Was planning to use plywood for the carcases and wondered whether anyone knew if it was possible to buy pre-finished plywood, finished on at least one side, to give a good finish on what...

Delta 22-560 (or is it 565)

Thanks Owen, a good point about parts which hadn't even crossed my mind. Think I will probably go for the Dewalt.

Delta 22-560 (or is it 565)

Read the useful thread on members planers/thicknessers and the Delta 560/565 seemed to come out well. Does anyone know if these are still for sale and if so where can you get them from? They seem to be in limited supply.

    Yet more bandsaw buying advice

I think I am coming round to your way of thinking Lee. I think all things considered (and I take the points about the Charnwood) I too like the look of the 4300. I am going to go to the Ally Pally show to have a good look and get a feel for a few things. It is a shame that the likes of Axminster...

    Planer Advice

Chris When you say the machine is accurate what is the fence like? I currently have a Dewalt P/T which although has served me well has an awful fence on it which is almost impossible to set up square and tends to move when any pressure is placed upon it. Looking at the pictures on the...

    Yet more bandsaw buying advice

Bob Sorry if I mislead. Didnt mean written reviews but there are a number of threads on here where people have commented on the B4. Think I am going to bite the bullet and buy the Hammer mainly because a) I use the bandsaw a lot and b) want something that is going to last. The Hammer seems to...

    Yet more bandsaw buying advice

Thanks All. I think I will take a look at Axminster as you suggest. I had heard that Scheppach were not as good as they used to be so useful to hear other opinions.

    Planer Advice

Thanks Simon, Have been thinking about the fox machines as they look okay as you say although don't know much about them. If you dont mind me asking, how much use does yours get. I guess I am wondering how much stick it would take in terms of occasional heavy use.

    Planer Advice

Moving on from my bandsaw questoins posted previously has anyone used the Axminster CT1502 150mm Planer. Planning to have a dedicated planer and separate thicknesser now I have the space. There is the Axminster and the Jet (which is roughly twice the price and more than I want to spend if I'm...
