Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

Thanks, I'll take a look. Can you put my name on it in just in case?

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

Agree re costs of production, but I can't help but wonder if our main broadcasting channels could do more to educate people rather than just entertain them. I tend to find the formulaic format of missing the detail, emphasising whatever is in vogue, wrapped in politically correct presentation...

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

Thanks for your response, the old furniture around us is a marvel, and often unappreciated, given the low prices many antique pieces fetch at auction. I will certainly find the books you suggest.

    portable chisel storage

I did see an old boy who stored his chisels in a tray with what appeared to be baking parchment/ grease proof paper, lightly sprayed in oil/WD? laid under and over them. He transported them to site this way.

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

It is such a shame that house renovation shows (and many others) are presented in the format they are in the UK, dumbed down content for the masses. I would much rather TV became more educational than just focus on entertainment. That said YouTube and equivalent have made access to good content...

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

I do get a lot from practicing - chisel work for example.

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

At this stage in my woodworking it is difficult for me to assess who is/not skilled. I guess in time, I will get better at this.

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

Youtube appears dominated by US woodworkers, is there more of them per capita or do they just like to be in front of the camera more? There appear to be some very large woodworking stores in the US affording easy hands on access to machinery and tools. Yes we have some in the UK, but who is...

Boxes - Hard Wax Oil or Lacquer

Hello and thanks for your response. So far I have used Black Walnut, Sapele and Ash. I found the Sapele to be brittle when trying to thickness. I have bought in some Cherry, Maple and Poplar in small quantities, to gain some familiarity with them. I'm guessing that the oil first approach...

Boxes - Hard Wax Oil or Lacquer

I am making some keepsake type boxes and engraving them with a CO2 Laser. I am keen to know whether a tinted hardwax oil, followed by a clear hardwax oil or a cellulose (or other) lacquer, presumably over light fast stain or water stain and a sanding sealant is the way to go. This is all a bit...

    No Fault Evictions

This is an interesting thread, I posit the following for consideration. What is the incentive for landlords to to evict tenants who pay the rent, look after the property they live in and refrain from antisocial behaviour? If tenant 1 lives in a house for 2 years with no damp issues, tenant 2 has...

    I'm new around these parts

Cheers AgainstTheGrain -yup, I am suitably gullible at this stage. I think the Bandsaw is upto the job, 18", 16amp, plenty of ooomph for what I am doing. I think you're right in terms of running it better - precision on bearings etc and a decent blade. Someone mentioned Tuffsaws as a go to. Any...

    I'm new around these parts

Firstly thanks for accepting my membership enquiry. I found my way to your door in pursuit of information about Carbide Tipped Bandsaw Blades. I am a relatively new, but becoming highly addicted woodworker. I still posses that air of novice motivation, excitement and generally annoying...
