if you are powering the lights from the third pair of terminals (supposedly regulated 12v output) when you press the load button they should switch on or of if they show brighter then either they are also wired direct to the battery as well or the solar controller is faulty the solar panel...

just get a long screw of the correct size and a nut, washer and a suitable spacer. to be honest if you have a problem with that then you should not be taking it apart in the first place.

wobble saw for the groove and planer for the tongue, if you want 45% champers as well then a router table or even saw table would be my approach because I already have a wobble saw blade.

simple when you know how.
