    BBC Scaremongering again

Genuine question: does the bbc licence fund infrastructure that the other providers use to deliver the signal to you? If so, the licence seems fair, if not, I understand your perspective.

    BBC Scaremongering again

    how does that roughly work?

    BBC Scaremongering again

I think there are four possibilities: - subscription service - paid centrally from tax - commercial entity which uses advertising to fund itself - licence scheme subscription service: would just be a pain in the bum to administer, there would have to be set top boxes, decoders, whatever, and...

    BBC Scaremongering again

I hear and understand with what you are saying, which if I read right is: "if i don't use the service, regardless value, why should I pay for it?" From my limited understanding, there is the choice not to use it and therefor not to pay for it by simply telling them you don't watch live tv...

    BBC Scaremongering again

I think you are spot on with all of what you said there.

    BBC Scaremongering again

I don't have a strong view on the BBC TV licence, my family never watch live TV or the news, we don't even have a tv antenna But one thing I must point out, that having lived in a few countries and travelled extensively to many more, is that BBC is actually pretty good value overall compared to...

    I don't believe it!!!

I can see where you are coming from, but it is not really the case this time with Facebook's outage. They have massive resiliency, redundancy, and scalability capacity. Their IT systems and procedures are considered top notch in the industry in this respect. That's why they pay £180k average...

    I don't believe it!!!

Fail fast in Facebook's industry doesn't mean how you've interpreted it. From a technical perspective it means make or try something small, then test it loads, and if successful push out to end users. It is cheaper, easier and results in higher quality product, because problems are found...

Katsu trimmer router will not start until I give it a spin

I'd say is a warranty issue. My limited electrical knowledge is that some motors need a capacitor to give it a kick like you've described to start it rotating. The starter capacitor could have blown. I don't know much about this though.

Sold Dewalt Flexvolt table saw + 3 Batteries

Thank you, this is really useful. I have the non-battery version of this saw and the same mitre gauge, virtually the same as your selling here. I found making the inserts a right pain. From what you are saying I can tell that the inserts are different between your battery model and my...

The zero clearance insert plates that you have: did you buy them or make them yourself? If you made them yourself: do you have any tips on it? If you brought them: where did you get them from?

    One-*** efficacy questions

Earlier in this discussion I presented 11 people that I know have died from covid. 5 from one family, 3 from another, one more, and then a couple more. I also presented two others I know that have serious long covid complications. Both of them young strong and healthy. You and Rorschach...

    One-*** efficacy questions

We have nothing to discuss because you are arguing that a certain level of death is acceptable for you, probably because they aren't people you care about. Stepping back, how do you think that comes across? When we look up at the sky and see the moon, we only ever see one side, it doesn't...

    One-*** efficacy questions

You seemed upset that the government didn't go forward with the 750k death rate ""plan"". Your post read like your acceptable number was higher. Mine is of course zero. Unobtainable, but aspirational. Some countries have come close to it. Given your pattern of selective and partial replies...

    One-*** efficacy questions

    - do you have bandages at home? Incase you cut something... - do you use soap at home? That prevents you from getting sick... - not when the symptoms look like other diseases - it was not clear for a long time exactly what symptoms looked like. They had a good idea, but not a precise idea...

    One-*** efficacy questions

You are talking about "plan" being a certainty and there being some weird conspiracy behind them not choosing it. One of "plan"'s definitions is "proposal" and one other "to decide upon". 750k deaths is a ghastly number, what number of people in your life are you willing to lose, or risk...
