Master switch for a circuit of sockets?

Fascinating - thank you 😀 amazing what knowledge people have! I get the logic behind singles as effectively in layman’s terms you are using higher quality wire- I assume the conduit is because singles don’t come packaged in a tough outer as ‘normal’ cable does? But why metal sockets?

Master switch for a circuit of sockets?

So are we saying that the basic difference is that a radial is 4mm cable and a ring is 2.5mm? And that in a ring the last plug goes back to the breaker in the consumer board... Presumably breaking a ring gives effectively 2 radials from the same breaker but isn’t there still the same power...

Master switch for a circuit of sockets?

So why do we still build circuits rather than radials? re tools - band saw / mitre saw / scroll saw/ thicknesser / sander / drill... if I have an isolator I can leave them all plugged in and switched on at the wall and just turn off one switch... My builder will manage the work - either he...

Master switch for a circuit of sockets?

that seems to be the idea - does that work on a ring / circuit versus a spur? If I think of the electrical circuit like a railway I can see how on a spur an isolator would kill anything after it... but on a ring it would seem that the electricity could flow the other way around and bypass the...

Master switch for a circuit of sockets?

Consumer unit is there but a bit high for comfortable frequent access plus the risk of turning off the wrong circuit... would prefer a simple switch...

Master switch for a circuit of sockets?

As a slight follow on to the excellent thread about sockets, I am having the workshop wired in the next few weeks, and amongst other plans will have a separate circuit for the main tools... my question - is there an option to wire in a master switch I could use to turn off all plugs on that...

    Random- how many sockets?

What is the difference between radial and ring main? Aren’t they both a circle from and to fuse with plugs on it? (I have very little knowledge of this!) 😀

    Random- how many sockets?

Pillar drill / mitre saw / two different vacuum systems (HPLV / LPHV) / air filter / band saw / thicknesser / planer / scroll saw / sander / ultrasonic cleaning tank / laser engraver / router table (to be bought!) / lathe (to be bought) / glue gun / soldering iron is 16 plugs TV / firestick /...

    Random- how many sockets?

The consumer board has 10 slots - no idea what the main breaker amperage is, but am guessing that it is more of a question of what tools are run, not how many sockets there are - an empty socket using no amps?! :) I know that my library has 24 plugs (12 doubles) and then a further 24 (12...

    Random- how many sockets?

currently the workshop (used to be garage) has two double sockets... :) about to have it rewired along with the storage next to it: - circuit for tools - circuit for the freezer and fridge-freezer - circuit for normal plugs - indoor lighting - outdoor lighting - outdoor plugs spare circuits - we...

    Your opinion about logos.

In which case I would crack on as you are - sticker and all - make it a light load on you - and enjoy the fact that for those who do buy they have something which is a part of your creativity and ingenuity. I think it has been a fascinating discussion and a lot of good advice - but there is a...

    Your opinion about logos.

In addition to all the other very valid thoughts... how many of these are you going to sell? If the reality is only a few a year then do whatever you want the brand will make almost no difference! Minimal hassle, cost, effort is the way forward... If though you expect it to be thousands+ then...

    Your opinion about logos.

Just be aware that if you call a product what it is as a brand you have zero IP protection - you can not trademark something which just states what it is, so as it is a scriber or something to scribe you are simply being descriptive and if I wanted to call my version (not that I am capable of...

    Your opinion about logos.

I have an alternative view from the post you replied to... I have owned a design and website business for nearly 2 decades and been in the industry for over 30 years and would argue that branding is very important - we live in a branded world and anything without a brand instantly subconsciously...

    Your opinion about logos.

A logo gives you an identity / brand which suggests that you 'established' and that does give a bit more credibility / value to the item over something with no branding or logo (such as a generic Chinese item) however a sticker can look a little more industrial / low spec than something better...
