FTAGH Free if collected from Bristol!

The following items are surplus to requirement and taking up space that is needed for other purposes - all of them are free to anyone who wishes to collect them from a BS9 post code (10 minutes from the M5). I don't have time to sort out postage / couriers / etc. Ideally would like them gone in...

    Calor gas bottles for barbecue.

Check connector types not just colour - we have three green calor ‘patio gas’ canisters and the fourth is from a local company and is red - all the same connectors

Tool ideas for a beginner making doll's house / miniatures

dremel are good - I use mine a lot, making toys etc. I have the Proxxon router table - it is okay, but a bit plasticky for the money other than that a jigsaw (scroll saw) can be very useful - but the most useful is a range of sanders - I have mini ones (look on amazon, they are cheap) / disk and...

    Wenge is it African rosewood?

I think that visually and to work with they are very different - Wenge seems more open grained whereas rosewoods tend to be a slightly more ‘creamy’ wood… I recently made these knife scales from birds-eye wenge (apparently quite a rare variant - given to me by my timber importer brother in law)

    Strange website displays...

okay - shouldn't be happening but brave browser might be a part of the equation - most developers tend to code to a maximum of three core technologies - Safari / Chrome, Firefox, Edge - so may be worth trying Chrome or Firefox as an alternative to see if that makes a difference...

    Strange website displays...

It is the CSS files which are being blocked - if in Chrome or Firefox - press F12 to see the developer console - you may have some error messages which help track down the issue... 2 possible candidates: - firewalls being over-aggresive - Ad-blocking software in the browser

Where and what wood to buy?

all three of those are available in the UK quite easily... you want to avoid B&Q and building supplies companies and look for timber suppliers close to you. A quick google should find some - however there are many across the country who will send wood to you as well...

    Selling advice

well said - there is no mass-market equation which works for the wood hobbiest - the only way to make money is to go very upmarket, and even then it is not as profitable as it should be. We have a client who was a top end cabinet maker - restorer of old furniture - maker of beautiful new...

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

Yes circular items can be an issue on a bandsaw but small dowel generally isn’t - hold it firmly and it is fine - I cut loads and metal rod with no issues… The video above is because it is a larger diameter and therefore has a larger space into which it can pull the piece below the area being...

    Selling advice

It would indeed... Our experience working with people in the creative world is that their most creative efforts seem to be in their accounting where they forget to include half the costs that go towards making something - even something as simple as sanding paper might have a £1 cost on an item...

Near catastrophe with control panel failure on Hyundai Kona Car!

sounds awful... without wanting to minimise it - the reality is that all cars have things that can go wrong / every generation has had different things - now it might be more electrical but older cars were more likely to have mechanical failure (I had a classic range rover where road debris...

    Selling advice

There are some interesting comments above on websites... My day job is running a business doing two things - management consultancy advising businesses on how to grow and building website solutions for them... I have been running it for over 20 years and we have seen all the software come and...

    Home library

It does show how different a set of views people can have… for me a set of book spines is relaxing and exciting, it is the start of one or more adventures into a new world, friends to make, emotions to share… highs and lows to experience and new favourites to re-read into the future… it might...
