Planer blades nicked - just bought

I agree with above. I have had very good service from Appleby and would happily recommend them. It sounds like you have hit something in the timber. Grit picked up from the floor, or part of a staple left in the timber from where the delivery label has been pulled of is one I watch out for. Colin

    Bedroom Tax

I should not post this, but I will. The previous Post Office branch my good lady worked at was a "corner shop" affair. It had been raided on several occasions and I could not figure out why, until I was informed that it had to carry sufficient funds to cover it if the usual cash delivery was...

    Bedroom Tax

To give you some indication of how much benefit is being claimed, consider my position. I do not earn a lot, just a little over the average wage. I am a 51 year old teacher with 30 years experience, married with 2 sons, 20 and 23. Admittedly I work a 40 week year, but I average 55hrs a week as...

    SCHEPPACH HM2 QUIZ ??

No4 are hold down rollers to keep pressure on top of timber when pushing through. It looks like the two top bars line up with the "wings" coming up from the sides of the guard in No1. Colin

MDF fake ledge and brace doors?

Greg, weight is not a problem. The door in photo is 1700 x 700. Others made have been 2000 tall. 18mm mdf is fine. Here is another one. Colin

MDF fake ledge and brace doors?

What you are suggesting is how I make my larder cupboard doors. I hang these on a cut down T hinge. I have not done many, 10 or so over as many years, but no problems reported. Colin

Axminster Power Tools - faith restored

On other threads the subject of Axminster Tools has recently been raised regarding back orders, poor service etc. Following one of the posts I e-mailed Richard beer who had posted a reply. I raised a couple of issues with him and I cannot fault the support and kind offer that he made...

    Jet support

You can go either to Axi or Brimarc. http://www.brimarc.com/ Brimarc distribute JET and in the UK Brimarc and Axi are one and the same. You may however find that one of the appointed distributors will undercut Axi, although the goods may probably be sent from the Axi warehouse. This happened...

    Moving Big Cast Iron Machines?

As replies above the problem is the lift and not moving it about. When I bought and subsequently sold a Sedgwick MB, about 380 kilos, I managed to move it from workshop at bottom of garden, 200ft across grass, gravel, decking, up and down a step etc by myself. This was using a pallet truck and...

    Dewalt RAS DW125 switch problem.

Your problem sounds similar, although not identical to the switch failure on my Elu RAS, a very similar unit. My saw worked one day and then not the next. I realised the switch was not locking in, and if I kept my thumb on it the saw would continue to run and I could continue with my work. If...

If its not in stock go elsewhere if you can. Delivery issues now seem to be the norm. Colin

    Axminster Evolution Chuck Delivery Problems

Late and incomplete deliveries, back orders, incorrect deliveries. These now seem to be the norm with Axminster. At school we are often ordering something every week from them, and I cannot recall when we had a correct and full order delivery off them. Before X-Mas we ordered 2 x lathes and...

    Art Deco Reference Works?

Mike, very useful thank you. I have just opened the link and it should save me a lot of time and help my year 11 this year a lot. Colin

Dust management - small workshop ??

First thing, can you make the ceiling height greater than 8 foot. This would be advisable as it means moving sheets of ply/mdf a lot easier. On a 6m long workshop a bag type extractor with a fine cartridge filter half way along one side should meet your needs . A 2.5m hose on this should reach...

    Most painful mistake??

Only a few cuts:- First one involved a spring. I have a pre-war Startrite pillar drill with a snapped return spring that I could not buy a replacement for. I guillotened a strip of spring steel to width, bent the end over, then re-hardened and tempered the area. Whist coiling it into the...

To Spindle Mould or not to Spindle Mould?

I have a few routers including a 1/2" Elu 177E set up permanently in a big router table. This gets used most, but I do also have a small Elektra/Metabo spindle. I have limited tooling for this but would not be without it. I use a wobble saw set up for grooving doors for 9mm mdf panels, a rebate...

    Startrite bandsaws

gwr, If you have the money in your pocket and you want new I doubt you would be disapointed if you bought one. I am 51 and I am hoping it is the last bandsaw I will buy. Also consider Scott and Sergeant have them for £949 at the present. http://www.scosarg.com/catalog/product/view/id/13460/...

    Workbench top glue

I use Titebond 3 for everything. Good initial tack and long open time seem a contradiction but appear to be true. I also like the lack of creep on wide M&T joints in doors. Some details here - http://www.axminster.co.uk/titebond-tit ... prod29225/ I would also as suggested above clamp up in...
