    Hello from Devon

    Second only to ours probably!

    Hello from Devon

Not too far from where I was born then .... Plymstock. I'm now overlooking the northern edge of Dartmoor - when I can see it through the rain, that is!

    Hello from Devon

Welcome Connor, Nice stuff - Like you, I'm not formally trained either - many of us are hobby wood workers and Devon appears to have quite an enclave of them. Where abouts in Devon are you?

    Power saving?

Incredible thing! Without reading the other posts, as soon as he took the back cover off it and exposed the components, I could see what it was without him even analysing it. Total scam. The only real way for the average user to save household energy is to turn off stuff that is not being used.

    Ducting system questions?

It does work but it's better to do a sweeping bend, so a 45, as bit of straight pipe and another 45. Otherwise, the bend is abrupt and may be just as bad or even worse than a single 90. By no means definitive aero, but here's part of mine

    Ducting system questions?

It's easy to get bogged down with calculations and to lose sight of the main intention. Your workshop isn't massive and, if you are not careful, you will feel like you are part of an air-conditioning experiment. Over the years I've tried a variety of things and have settled upon two discrete...

    Hello from Devon.

I can't see the sea from here so I'll have to take your word for it (too many hills in the way) 😂

    Hello from Devon.

Everything slopes in Devon - the only flat surfaces consist of salt water. ;)

    Hello from Devon.

Another Devon resident here. In my case, not that far from castle Drogo. Welcome to the forum.

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

Overall, I thought that series two was a huge improvement over series one. Mel was still, Mel. Trouble is, every show seems to need a comedian or celebrity in it so as to attract viewers in sufficient numbers. The two best ones were in the final. The jury is still out for me as to if Lauren or...

    Plantation Shutters

It's worth checking where the beads are, assuming uPVC double glazing. A 15cm gap may be ok, it just depends what tools a repairer may have on the day and how tight the beads are

    Plantation Shutters

The sashes aren't the problem generally - it's the frames for the plantation sashes which often foul the leverage points for the beads. It can be very difficult to get a multitool in between the uPVC frame and the frame for the shutters and lever the beads out unless there is a large gap between...

    Plantation Shutters

Then I can see them being a good idea in your situation. One thing to be careful about: if you have uPVC windows and if they are internally beaded, be careful to ensure that the frames for the shutters do not encroach on the area where you need to need to use tools to separate the beads from...

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

It only dips into mortgages and interest rates because Kev keeps going off topic. We've tried to warn him ;)

    Plantation Shutters

Personally, I think that shutters are a good idea because, as Jacob said, they offer good insulation. Plantation shutters are good for privacy. I'm less inclined to advocate plantation shuttering. When we had our repair business, plantation shuttering was more of a nuisance than anything else...

    Kity Combination machine CK26?

What an interesting thread! I think I have one too. It comes on a wooden topped table rather than a metal one though. I say "I think" because it was my dad's and we have recently moved it and a lot of other stuff from his place to ours prior to selling his house. I'm unlikely to keep it...

    Hand carved rocking horse

That brought back such wonderful memories seeing yours (it looks lovely by the way). Thank you for sharing it. My dad made one for our son something like 22 years ago. Our son never liked it and hasn't wanted it. Happily for us, it sits on our landing, and we love it to bits.

    "Today I Am Mostly Gardening"

Gardening is big in our place. My wife does much of the small and intricate stuff. I use large mowers and the tractor for the rest.

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

I do wish Kev would stop trying to ask questions about mortgages. This is a thread about immigration and politics ;)
