    Rust on machine tables

The ark is coming along nicely 😀

    Rust on machine tables

The first time it happened, and we were aware before buying the house, it was quite scary. To be honest now, it's quite awe inspiring because we know that the bricks and mortar are safe. There's at least a four foot difference in height between the back of my workshop and what is in the picture...

    Rust on machine tables

I'm finding exactly the same thing Colin - around here they call Okehampton "Soakhampton" and for pretty good reason. I've just put in an order for some ACF-50 as my stuff is rusting too. After the cold weather a few weeks ago the workshop PVC floor tiles were sweating once the temperatures...

    Festool KS60 to 100mm extractor

Hi Pete, with the criminal prices we are being charged for energy in the UK at the moment I'm on a mission to hunt down cold spots and plug gaps - quite a task in an old house. My theory is that it will pay for itself quite quickly, or that's what my wife has been told anyway. ;)

    Rust on machine tables

Welcome to wet, but wonderful, Devon Colin! That's an interesting thread and I think I'll need to get some too.

    Festool KS60 to 100mm extractor

Or you could get the Flir C3-X - a really nice small standalone thermal imagining camera which is proving very effective in our house. ;)

Energy bills dated end of December 2022

Somehow Steve, I suspect that gas and electricity won't return to the levels that we enjoyed in recent times. The market wasn't sustainable and many companies had to exit and those who are left will put a higher priority upon survival than gaining market share. What the new "normal" is, goodness...

Energy bills dated end of December 2022

To put ours into context: £527 per month (so far) Property about 3,600 square feet with an EPC "D" and is detached. Somewhat exposed to the elements but in a relatively maild part of Devon. Oil fired CH with solar PV (non battery). Underfloor heating in all but two rooms - runs 24/7 but each...

Energy bills dated end of December 2022

Compared to ours, yours is cheap! We've averaged £527 a month during autumn and winter. It's a large old house and I'm in the throws of reducing the consumption as its our first winter here.

interlocking pvc or rubber mat floor tiles for woodworking garage workshop

I bought a load of tiles several years ago. I can't be 100% sure that it was these people but the warehouse looks familiar. I got a substantial discount for collection as they are pretty heavy and consume quite a volume in quantity. The ones I bought were not solid. They are about 10mm thick...

    Happy Christmas everyone

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Santa has provided me with a Ferrari but my wife says that it's going to be slightly late on account of the postal strike. And there's me thinking that a nice man from the dealership would be delivering it and not the postman

    Electric advice urgently required

That's a very interesting video and it certainly exposes the pitfalls of using the wrong equipment or the right equipment wrongly. I admit to nearly always using a multi-meter but I like to think that I know how to use it properly and safely.

    Hydro power from small river?

We have a river on the edge of our land and riparian rights to it. In effect, the boundary of our land goes to the middle of the water course and I suspect that I could put something on the side as a harvester provided it doesn't adversely affect others who have similar rights further down...

    Heating thermostat in the hallway

Hi Norman, Your point about heat pumps is valid - they have been around for ages - and I agree that the world and his dog are trying to capitalise on the opportunity, and this is where the problems come. Hydroponics, yes, guilty as charged. "Hydronics", is probably a better description. Out...

    Heating thermostat in the hallway

In trying to cut our heating bills via research on the internet, it seems to me that there is a certain amount of low hanging fruit which is obvious but that most of it comes down to individual situation. There are a massive number of variables in every property and what works well in one might...

Rental properties and new EPC rules

I've seen this so often while looking to move and I've also come up against it with regard to ways to improve the property that we now own. A buyer or an owner has to have a very strong wish to save the environment to put their hand in their pocket to support fluff such as this.

Will smart meters be used for the rolling blackouts?

Every time I research air and ground source heat pumps, I discover that their energy usage, when being grid powered is comparatively eye watering. We were told that, for our place, we'd either need three phase or a second single phase cable installed. Yes, in theory, solar can be installed but...

Rental properties and new EPC rules

When we were selling our house earlier this year, we were one point off a B. I spoke with our agent and with the people who did the EPC and asked them what we needed to do to get a B rating. They went away and came back with a B rating after about an hour. For a reason that nobody could explain...

    Your Favourite Tape Measure(s)

My preference is 8m Fatmax - when I was working, they took some very serious abuse and gave good value. Now, I'm probably being a total numpty but, when I was surveying for a living, my brain struggled (just occasionally) to process a metric measurement using the lower scale style in the...

Festools concept of Black Friday is off

If a designer / manufacturer holds a patent and if the products using the patent sell well and with a very healthy margin, I can easily see why they wouldn't need to develop the product further. Far better, perhaps, to invest R+D money into something else which can be leveraged with a new...
