Getting gloss finish with danish oil

Thanks for the replies. Is it just danish oil that yellows or do others too? For the sanding sealer and wax method do you need to give it a really good buff once the wax has dried to achieve the glossy finish?

Getting gloss finish with danish oil

Hi everyone It’s rare that I work with real timber so I’m looking for some advice on how to achieve a glossy finish with danish oil, specifically with some ash shelves I’ve made. I remember a long time ago I believe my process was to oil, leave to dry, rub with 00 grade steel wool. Repeat 3...

    Dining Room Wall Panelling WIP

Absolutely cracking looking job that. Out of interest how did you achieve the detail below the mantle shelf? Also any idea how the paint was applied? I’m guessing roller? It looks so impressive.

    Freebird interiors - Alastair Johnson

Thanks for all of the replies so far. One of the details I’ve wondered about is how you would go about scribing a stand alone (or hang alone!) wall hung cabinet where the bottom and two sides of the carcass all need to be scribed due to a very uneven wall. As obviously when you scribe one of...

    Freebird interiors - Alastair Johnson

Hi everyone I’m just wondering if any of you have paid for the online “apprenticeship” that Alastair offers and wondering what you thought of it? It’s £150 for non members or £90 if you subscribe to his channel. He seems like a good guy and I really like his YouTube videos but it’s often...

    Carpentry in the North Pennines?

My only thoughts are that the north Pennines are fairly remote (as you probably already know!) so maybe small villages and plenty of farms so probably not many opportunities for work in those areas so the only thing I’d say is you’d probably have to be prepared to travel a little further than...

    Woodpeckers v benchdogs T-square

Evening all. I’m considering buying one of the above. Both look really well made and will hopefully last a long time if not a life time. Has anyone got either of these? Any opinions on either? I know there are similar offerings to the woodpecker on banggood etc but are these well made or are...

    Cleaning up an old vice

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I’ll definitely try to keep it as original as possible and probably won’t even touch the painted areas. Lons - I actually bought some old sash clamps not long ago and they also still have the original small oval record stickers on them which I’ve been very...

    Cleaning up an old vice

Evening everyone I’m picking up an old record 52 1/2e vice on Thursday for the princely sum of £12 but it does need a bit of tidying up. Can anyone recommend something to remove the rust/corrosion from the non painted parts? I’ve used 00 wire wool in the past but wonder if there’s a better...

    Discount codes

Ah wow yeah that’s a really good price. I don’t know of any discount codes but what about looking at second hand tools on the usual sites? A lot of my tools apart from ones that take a hammering (impact driver/combo drill etc) have all been second hand and have never let me down. If you go to...
