Wood burning stoves tested to destruction

It's a shame if their concept doesn't measure up. They look like someone has thought of something outside the box. But, unfortunately, sometimes the stuff inside the box is what has proven to work and why we have to go back to it. I do hope the negative feedback proves wrong though because they...

    Recommend lathe light

Same here. One on my grinder, two on the wood lathe and one on my engineer's mini lathe. And, yes, one on my sewing machine.

Wood burning stoves tested to destruction

Our thirty-year-old cast iron stove heats our hot water and radiators during the cold months in our 1920s house. We don't burn gas so as long as the electricity comes from a carbon-neutral generator then we should be making only a small impact on the environment. As far as removing fire bricks...

    Sharpening drills

I bought the Plasplugs drill bit and blade sharpener in the eighties. I thought at first it was 'doing the job'. Then, my big brother showed me how to sharpen both by hand and eye. It really does become a muscle memory. I do occasionally use jigs for sharpening blades and bowl gauges when it's...

    portable chisel storage

I have a canvas roll with leather reinforcement at the sharp end but I don't store them in the roll for the reason Orraloon points out. I don't have a rust problem in my workshop but have had problems with rust 'staining' on items stored in cloth or leather. I made a wet-pressed leather shoe for...

For Sale BOSCH POF 1400 ACE 1400W 1/4" ELECTRIC ROUTER 230V almost new Price: 60

I don't want the router. But just to let you know I recently posted a heavy 1950s Singer sewing machine with an extra motor. Dropped it at the post office and paid £8.40 Royal Mail so it may not be as expensive as you think.

Considering dipping toe into 3d printing so what do you think of this one?

I replaced my old Anycubic with the Flashforge 5M Pro a few months ago. Cannot fault it. At first glance, the specs looked similar to the Creality but reading through I see that the Creality does not have a camera built-in, no HEPA exhaust filter and the big difference for me is no quick-change...

    Bambu lab buying advice

Yes, I think I'm answering your query. I did compare it to the P1S. The P1S has a 30mm larger printing area but that, for my requirements, was not a deal breaker. The £300 price difference was. I didn't realise the quick-change nozzle, speed, USB rather than Micro SD slot would also factor in.

    Bambu lab buying advice

I did have a few problems with PETG when printing with my Anycubic Kobra so bought a Sunlu drier. No more problems. Now I have my Flashforge 5M Pro which warms or cools the environment inside the case, depending on the filament used, I've printed PETG only a few times without drying and had no...

Latest thing you have printed / machined / cut

After searching for replacement stones of the same dimensions as the original I decided I may as well design my version of a planer blade honing stone holder using larger 10mm x 10mm ruby-type stones. It was originally going to hold a ruby and a green stone because that's what I had at hand but...

    Bambu lab buying advice

I don't rely on the touch screen for anything as far as the prints are concerned. It's all controlled from one of my computers. It's just handy for certain settings, changing filaments and if you need to re-calibrate now and again. It's not a deal breaker. Think of it as the screen you have on...
